He had loved with all of him yet got repeatedly deceived. He was kind, understanding, faithful and devoted yet in the end his scarred heart still was left broken. Wangji had enough of this precious yet taken for granted love. Wuxian's sweet nothings which he now knew were just lies. The writer had chosen to hurt Wangji, and Wangji had the duty to save himself from falling deeper into Wuxian's deceitful abyss.
The young man couldn't bear suffering a third blow. Twice is already too much. He had to be wise this time around. 'Enough is enough.', Wangji bitterly told himself.
The wind was howling outside his car, the weather joining him in his inner turmoil. The trees rustle as the memories passed by him in a blur. They were beautiful but Wangji couldn't think of it that way no more. His knuckles turned white against the steer, mind wandering to the moments which made him feel warm once but is now making him feel hell.
Composure unraveled, Wangji mapped his way to where Wuxian was.
One sight of the man and it had sent a perpetual current of desire through him. He wants him, loves him still, helplessly like against the pull of gravity from the Earth's very core.
Wangji lamented how weak he had turned to be against that scheming liar. How he was willing to fall to his knees and glorify him night and day. How he was ready to surrender even his life just for his Wei Ying.
But he shouldn't anymore, should he?
His footsteps were heavy as he pushed the door to the side informing the occupier of his presence. Wuxian perked up when he spot Wangji, face perplexed almost white and unable to react instantly, as if he was caught concealing another deplorable offense.
"L-Lan Zhan?" He stuttered, pupils dilated. "H-How long have you been t-there?"
Regrettably, Wangji's emotional derangement surpassed his intellectual acuity. He did not perceived the other's unease instead only felt the extremist of his hate.
"Is this just a game for you?! All of these a part of your scheme?!" Wangji barked, knuckles fisted on his side.
"L-Lan Z-Zhan..." Wuxian tried to come near but Wangji's anger took the best of him. He sneered disdainfully eyeing the scrawls, scribbles and notes on Wuxian's working desk. He picked up a piece of paper skimming through the sweet phrases of familiar love confessions.
"I would die if you leave me." He smiled sadly pronouncing the words on the little paper, eye refocusing back on Wuxian's almond dark orbs.
"Getting in character, aren't you?" Wangji weakly asked, now more hurt than angry. His eyes started to sting, stubborn tears blurring his vision.
Wuxian attempted another step, wanting to close the gap Wangji had made between them. He implored, "Lan Zhan, p-please..." but his sentence was cut off with another snarl from the younger.
"PISS OFF!" Wangji swat Wuxian's hand away, voice cold and detached. "You've only used me! When I..." Wangji choked on his words, letting a sob escape his throat. "...when I've trully loved you."
Silence befall as Wangji's heart shattered in Wuxian's plain sight.
"I'm sorry." was the short reply Wuxian gave.
Wangji managed to stare back at him somewhat seeing truth somewhere in those lovely pair of eyes. Wangji's ever present love ebbs and flows through him like the crazy fool in love he always has been towards Wuxian. "I-I'm sorry, Lan Zhan." The writer's voice seemed genuine. But isn't that Wuxian's strength? His impeccable act which was always perfect to a fault that can put even veteran actors to shame?
Regardless, Wuxian's few words float in the silence of the night stabbing deeper into Wangji's frailty. Which among his many lies was he sorry for? Wuxian did not confess.
"Are you not even gonna explain?" Wangji's tone was weak now, his energy depleted from all his pain.
Wuxian slowly shook his head. "There is nothing to explain." He simply said, barely a whisper. Wangji didn't know the other was hurting the same. There are just words which cannot easily be said. And there are just secrets which should be kept unrevealed.
Wangji wobbled back, bitterly mumbling to self, 'One cannot truly change someone by loving them harder.' He smirked to himself, darting his head up the sky, trying to hold the heavy tears impending to drop from his lids. He tacitly asked heavens for something to stop his heart from hurting.
He closed his eyes and a tear freely fall.
For the last time, Wangji looked at the man whom he had given his heart. Wuxian looked small in that massive room. So small and lost yet so sinful. He was still the most beautiful man Wangji had ever seen. Flashes of memories assaulted the young man once more. But he can now only see the evil in all those good days they've spent together. Their 'I love you's', their promises, their bond, their kisses and vows. His foolishness and Wuxian's lies.
For once, Wangji wanted to be selfish. Diffuse his anger, inflict damage to the other and stand on solid ground of freeing himself from all forms of Wuxian's schemes and tricks. He smiled to him. Sad, hurt, wounded and broken. He let Wuxian see the wreck and mess he had done him. "Let's stop this, Wei Ying." Wangji said. It was so calm that Wuxian felt the ripples of Wangji's pain in his every cell. It blew a hole in his chest, numb every nerve in his being. The pain stuck to him, sunk in him, and he fell right into hopelessness and powerlessness but he could not cry in pain. He can only watch him unblinking. Watched how his Lan Zhan said his final goodbye, turn and step away from him.
"I hope not to see you again, Wei Wuxian."
Their beautiful love ended miserably in that kind of goodbye.
Wangji was at loss of exactly what to do as he walked away. How should he restart navigating his life without the thoughts of the other? How would his life be without the promises for the future that they had set together?
Wangji continued to amble his way, mutely listening at the quiet spread of the night. It was too quiet. Too cold. Too eerie. Too lonely. And his life would be just like that from then on.
'Slowly I will get back on my feet again.' He told himself wiping the tears that had formed again in his eyes.
