There is just much that Wuxian could tell Wangji. The man has his reasons. He would argue and say that ignorance can be bliss whereas knowing only means one more thing to be wary of. Yet Wuxian knew keeping too much secrets is a mistake that needs correcting.
"I understand you can't tell me everything. But at least, tell me the important ones." Wangji asked of him.
Four weeks apart. Wuxian did not even thought his own father would deceive him and use his mother's health so he would fly to the States and meet them. Only to land in there, be ripped off any communication device and locked-up in a room Wuxian calls a prison. Why? Just because the conglomerate's only son, his bundle of pride, his inheritor, came to love a man!
Wuxian had never seen his father so petty, so unreasonable, so against what he had come to love.
What is not to adore in the man Wuxian's heart has chosen? Lan Wangji is an esteemed righteous young Detective. Maybe the best in his field! Even his grumpy-to-all cousin Jiang Cheng only has good words for the Detective! Visuals? Oh Lan Wangji has an ethereal face and a body of a Greek God! Did his father even had a look at how perfect his Lan Zhan is?! Not least mention, a mind above the others and a temperament of a true gentleman.
"Really, Father? You think some rich bitch can even be compared to my Lan Zhan?!" He hissed and he received a hard blow on his face. "You will regret this! You aren't meant to be together!" His father spat back, as mulishly obstinate as him. Thus, the beginning of his long days confined in the four insipid walls of their basement.
The Old Master Wei believed distance and isolation would make his son's heart falter. But he was damn wrong. Wuxian showed his commitment and strong will. He ingeniously started refusing his meals stating he'd rather die than marry a woman he does not desire.
His good mother took pity on him. She tried convincing her husband over and over since Day One but did not succeed. Therefore, she had thought of a deceptive way to slip her son away from her husband's prying eyes and send Wuxian back to their home land. It took almost a month, but she did it in the end.
"Don't worry about me son. I can handle your father's stubbornness. Take care and I hope to meet your Lan Zhan soon." She sent her son back with a parting tight hug of a mother's love.
"I can't wait for you to meet my Mother, Lan Zhan! You will definitely love her!" Wuxian grinned placing a bowl of his homemade soup in front of his beloved.
"Mn. Me too." Wangji shortly replied. 'I know she is as lovely as you, my bunny.'
Wuxian then urged Wangji to eat. It's almost midnight and Wangji felt Wuxian was acting strange fidgeting on his side, watching every move he makes while he fiddled with his fingers under the table. It seemed he was plotting something and Wangji decided to play along.
Miyeok Guk, a korean seaweed soup, Wangji knew immediately after seeing and smelling the concoction. He suddenly thought of his own mother and the good memories of his childhood when they were still living in South Korea. When his lovely mother was still alive, she will make Wangji and his brother Xi Chen the same soup every year for their birthdays. It was a family tradition and the brothers look forward to it every single time.
"Happy birthday, Lan Zhan!" Wuxian timidly greeted and Wangji's first spoonful hanged mid-air. 'Birthday?' He internally pried. With the things going on, he had forgotten it was the 5th of August! His own date of birth! He realised it was the same reason why his brother was keen to meet up that day! Wangji owes his elder brother an apology.
"Puppy..." Wuxian pouted on his side, pulling a face, seeking attention. "...did you not like my surprise?"
Wangji bit his bottom lip, stopping himself from smiling too wide like a crazy puppy in love. He cleared his throat after a while, composing his expression, then flicker his eyes back to Wuxian's face. One look at his lover and Wangji's mouth quirked upwards automatically. "I love it, my bunny." He didn't lie. He cradled Wuxian's cheeks to give him a passionate kiss in thanks, but Wuxian pulled his face away. "Then finish the soup! Quick!" The older demanded and that made Wangji sulk away.
But eat, Wangji did with a sullen look on his face. He filled his mouth hastily, puffing his jade-white soft cheeks, tempting Wuxian to devour the creamy skin with his mouth and teeth.
"So tasty!" Wuxian smirked smooching the crimson cheeks he had bitten. Wangji on the other hand, had stopped moving, eyes glued at an inedible object on his spoon. His head tilted innocently after a minute, seeking Wuxian's eyes which were soulfully sparkling meeting his'.
The cheeky man did put something in Wangji's meal!
"Wei Ying!" Wangji does not know the face he was making. He was utterly befuddled, unable to think straight. It took a while before he even processed that his lover had taken advances of him once more latching on his mouth and giving him a full mouth kiss.
"I love you the most, Lan Zhan. Will you marry me?"
Wangji's eyes blurred, his heart screaming in his chest, 'I desperately want to marry this beautiful person.'
He joined their hands together, smiling while sniffing the happy tears away. "I will." Wangji broke into sobs of joy, kissing Wuxian's slender fingers holding the platinum ring the mischievous man had hidden in his birthday soup.
Love indeed is so beautiful. 💚❤
