The icy darkened amber eyes of Lan Wangji thawed into mellow honey brown looking at the exhausted unconscious man below him. His heart quivered, but only briefly, because a fresh wave of raw hatred immediately upsurged and pummeled his wavering heart.

He bit his lip until blood oozed and he felt the pain. He was coming down from his high, his consciousness mocking him why he had crossed the line again when he knew clearly the consequences it would bring.

Wangji's chest tightened and ached. Its old wounds reopening, evoking the same intensity of memories, feelings and hurt he had in the past. He took pity on himself, the long process of healing himself in the past 5 years was gone just like that with a kiss from his Wei Ying.

He slouched back on the other side of the bed, closing his reddened eyes, gripping his sweaty hair off his forehead.

The past was once again ignited in his memory as if it just happened yesterday. His first love. The love he thought was true and will ever last.

Once, he was that young Lan Wangji who had never considered falling in love. There is no love in him, he believed. Not since his parents died together in a bad car crash when he was twelve which made him and his older brother orphans. Wangji became indifferent and apathetic. He does not smile nor feel anything. He was a robot, people call him behind his back. But he does not care. He was living and breathing, that was enough for him.

At 18 years old, Lan Wangji was a senior in the Police Academy. He is smart and dedicated. He had learned and memorised the state laws by heart even before joining the cops' school. He is practically good in everything else too, be it close combat and self-defense, weapons training, defensive driving, first aids, computer and tracking skills, and his best, criminal investigation. Thus, it wasn't a wonder why he earned every trainor's favour. Even seniors his level would like to be part of his team during team trainings. He was an asset, the cream of the crop, a genius in the making, a respected protegé who delineates what is black and white and follows the rules strictly.

His life in the academy was smooth sailing until someone unexpected came.

"Did you see that tall new recruit?" A man gossiped from his back. Another man nodded his head stiffling a laugh, "Yeah! I've heard he got punished on his first day after mimicking Officer Mingjue's stature and words during the opening ceremony!"

"Oh man! I've seen his comedy act! That was hella hilarious! But poor guy had to do 300 sit ups afterwards!" They chuckled in unison.

Wangji listened, the freshman sounds like a troublemaker he should practically avoid. But I guess, he couldn't for too long.

One morning, Wangji was asked to fill in for an Officer to supervise the first years. He was there, that first year. He kept looking at Wangji from the moment he set foot on the training grounds, a glint of mischievous grin on his beautiful face. Yes, Wangji found him beautiful. Ironic. He was a man, but beautiful describes him better than the word handsome.

"Didi!" A voice called from Wangji's back as he exited the hall. He could hear hasty steps following him behind. "Lan Wangji!" The unfamiliar voice bawled. "Wangji-er!" The same man taunt.

"LAN ZHAN!" The loud yell ringed on the hallways making everyone stopped on their tracks including the apathetic Lan Wangji. 'Who had the guts to call the Icy Senior through his birth name?!' They curiously gazed, gulping hard at what the junior might end up to.

The man with the bright smile came to Wangji's front, huffing, catching his breath. "Lan Zhan! Why are you ignoring your junior?" He pouted, tilting his head like a puppy.

Wangji's dead pale eyes looked at him. One could freeze and die of such intense cold gaze, but that man, Wei Ying, giggled, amused. "You have such a lovely pair of eyes Lan Zhan!"

Chills ran through the backbones of those who had witnessed such frankness and absurdity in broad daylight. They could see Lan Wangji's eyebrow twitching. 'Run for your life!' They wished the cheeky man.

"10 laps." Wangji retorted, voice smooth.

Wei Ying crossed his arms, frowning at the slightly shorter man than him. "Lan Zhan! What did I do wrong?"

"20 laps." The frosty monotonous voice commanded.

"HUH?! What the mothe*f*--asfdghjkl!!!" His co-freshies sealed his mouth and sensibly dragged him away to save his ass before his punishment becomes even worse.

Lan Wangji thought he had taught him a lesson not to provoke and cross paths with him again. Worse luck, it only ignited the freshman's hunger for the cold Wangji's attention.

"Lan Zhan!" Wei Ying's yell practically became an ear-ringing shriek Wangji had to tolerate in a daily basis. No amount or type of punishment can stop the annoying man from pestering Wangji's once quiet life.

Wei Ying will leisurely appear before him as he pleases, scoot the seniors away so he can claim the seat besides Wangji during all three meal times, watch and drool over Wangji on his trainings, hooting and cheering unashamedly at Wangji's display of skills. He would also knock on the seniors' quarters at a wee hour to ask if Wangji wanted to have a stroll past the freaking midnight. Wangji managed to endure for almost a quarter of the year but his patience was running out. Dealing with that devil was gruelling and taking the life out of him.

"Did you hear? That Wei Ying is a rich heir that's why the officers don't dare punish him severely! He is practically untouchable!"

"What a lucky bastard! He can stroll around and skip trainings as he pleases!"

Wei Ying who had heard their hushed conversations slumped his arms on the seniors' shoulder, pulling their necks in a tight strangling hug. "Don't worry. I'll share my blessings with you." Wei Ying smirked and that only means trouble. "How about a team building outside this boring place? I'll sponsor everything. That is..." He grinned, mischief cooking in his head. "...in one condition."
