Wangji woke up with a slight headache. His limbs were numb, fixed at a certain awkward position overnight. He could smell a familiar scent of fresh roses mixed with a faint whiff of what he thinks was s*x. His eyes opened quickly and saw the bare nape of a familiar man laced with bruise-like bite marks. He moved slightly and felt their legs tangled below the sheets and his arm dominantly hugging the slender frame.
Dread. Wangji recollected certain memories of their passionate activities last night. His ears and neck burn from his audacity to initiate such actions.
But did he regret it?
A tiny smile, barely visible, prospered on his usually impassive face. He liked it, loved it. No doubt.
He then felt movements from the other man. Wangji's hand hovering his Wei Ying was instantaneously lifted, pulled closer to the warm body, and a soft peck left on its surface. Wei Ying then turned to him, still looking sleepy but beautiful with his morning smile. "I've already told you I love you last night. I hope you don't treat me as a one night stand, Lan Zhan."
Wangji's breath was knocked off his chest. He could feel his blush creeping to his porcelain cheeks. "I-I..." He stuttered, breath ragged, pupils dilated looking at the most beautiful angel he had ever seen.
Wei Ying cupped his cheek, the playful fingers rubbing the soft skin. "My Lan Zhan..." He said in his hoarse morning voice which made Wangji's heart thud like thunders clapping during a bad storm. "...you're mine." The other grinned and claimed the other's lips fervently. Wei Ying gave Wangji a sloppy wet kiss, devouring the younger's mouth slowly yet possessively. Wangji was lost in thoughts, unmoving, until the tip of Wei Ying's tongue prods his entrance. Wangji's mouth obediently obeyed and the two made love the second time that morning.
Love, the two said to each other once more. A confession. A promise. And they did remained solemn to their words until a few months down the line.
5 months it lasted. Short, but Wangji gave all of him and his heart in that 5 months. For a mischievous, cunning man, chanting love and promises to him. Yet in the end, he realised he was only toyed and used by the despicable scheming man.
Wei Ying's words were all lies. His promises, only meant to be broken.
Wei Ying disappeared at the peak of their fiery young love. One day, he just disappeared like a bubble that popped. He left without saying any words nor goodbye.
The selfish man had left Wangji confused, alone, dejected and devastated. His heart turning to ashes as days go by without any words of explanation from the man who'd claimed to love him madly.
Those months were tough and suffocating. Wangji's first love ended that way: broken without a closure.
But despite the pain, Wangji searched China from one city to another, crushing his ego and pride for that bliss of his first love. He used his connections and his competence tracking the man who's like a ghost leaving no trace behind.
Finally, he found him 3 months after.
'Wei Wuxian'
The famous writer was his Wei Ying.
'Even his name was a lie?' Wangji bitterly savoured the harsh blow from this discovery. But it was just the beginning of The Writer's Scheme.
'Becoming One', Wei Wuxian's newest novel was about a young man's journey as a secret service agent infiltrating police recruitment services. Wangji's heart almost stopped beating. It hurts so painfully he'd rather receive a bullet to his body. He understood, he was nothing but a supporting role to the writer's new book. Him and his colleagues, their routines and hard work, their characters and flaws were presented as if they mean nothing but lab rats of the cruel writer. Those memories he once treasured because of Wei Ying's existence in them started to get tainted with disgust and hatred.
Whereas, the writer still presented himself to the world as if he did not do harm to anyone. As if he had no guilt or sin to atone. He was selling books in a rampant speed, he was gaining more international recognition. That were what mattered to him. Not that he gave away secrets of both government departments which will put both parties in jeopardy. And definitely not that he had broken Wangji's heart as if it was a mere rubbish that he had to throw away.
With his wealth and power as a Wei, noone dared to touch him or confront him. He was pompous and arrogant like all other money and fame-loving aristocrats. He was just like them. He received praises, empty or honest, the man did not seem to care.
"There had been intimate scenes in the book. The first time you've touched that genre, romance. Does that man really exists? Did you fell in love?" A reporter asked the realist writer in one conference of which Wangji discreetly attended. Maybe Wangji was still hoping, still loving the crooked man despite the growing hatred.
And he got his closure that day.
Wei Wuxian's hollow laugh ringed. "That man exists but I did not mention the word love in the book at all. You can have another look. Like or love, there is no such word in my novel for that man." He leaned back on his seat, crossing his legs. His eyes were clear. His voice direct and mocking. "You know sometimes, minds are deceiving. We tend to believe something inexistent and impossible."
Wangji snorted and laughed for the first time after so many years. Love? 'What a foolish thing to feel!'
Anger and resentment fully consumed him. He erased the memories he had shared with the man. 'It was just a nightmare.' He convinced himself, pulling himself out of his pain.
He stopped chasing and instead started forgetting. Wangji learned to be strong again in guarding his heart. He swore from that day on, he won't ever open his heart again. He won't surrender for such feelings and lies again.
Love? It became a humourless comedy for him. His life went on without it, and definitely without whoever that had hurt him.
End of flashback.
