"I might not have enough time left." Wei Wuxian watched as the flame engulfed the piece of paper he had just read. The wind blew the ashes and carried the dust, permanently erasing the evidence of the letter's existence.
Wen Ning was confused, though he had his suspicions. He bowed his head understanding his Master's apprehension and veiled sadness behind his words.
"How is he?" Wuxian walked to his balcony, dimly lit eyes unfocused. "Is he still sulking?" He remembered how he had acted towards Wangji. The Detective was so stubborn leaving Wuxian no choice but to try another approach.
But he regrets it.
Regrets being mean to his Lan Zhan.
"I apologise I am not doing a good job Young Master." Wen Ning bowed slightly lower, his voice strangled in his throat while his face was etched with resigned sad lines. "Detective Lan has shut himself inside his room, refusing to come out or eat anything."
A long sigh left Wuxian's lungs. His weary eyes closed, trying to control his surging emotions of worry and self-blame.
"Give me the master key." He commanded, resolute to end the cold war with his Lan Zhan.
He sneaked into Wangji's quarters with quiet footsteps, heart pounding with the sight of his Lan Zhan's perfect figure leaning by the balcony, passive eyes steady in the horizon. Wuxian's naughty arms circled on the defined waist of his beloved, chin resting on Wangji's broad shoulder.
Wangji flinched slightly at the sudden warmth. His sharp senses felt the intruder's entrance and movements, but why did he not turn nor stop him? His heart answers. Because he exactly knew who it was. The warmth that mends him. The closeness that lures him. His Wei Ying who is still his greatest weakness.
'Damfool Lan Wangji!' His thoughts and emotions are jumbled and racing away. Fury or love? Hatred or regret? An unsettling feeling welled inside of him. Yet, Wangji knew what was best for him: to be strong and guard his heart. He would not fall into the same pit of misery because of the same man, he had strictly reminded himself.
"Let go." Wangji muted his thumping heart which crazily beats loudly for his Wei Ying.
"Lan Zhan..." Wuxian purred, hands tightly bolted around Wangji's frame. He unashamedly buried his face on the younger's crook and inhaled the woodsy fragrance, filling his lungs with the scent of home. He would not let go. Not yet. Not until he reach Wangji's heart once again. "Don't you love me anymore?" The words tumbled softly from Wuxian's lips. Fear and anxiety were sitting on his chest as he waited to the seemingly endless silence thereafter.
Love.
Love?!
'That mouth should not utter a word which meaning he does not know!'
'Why?!' Wangji asked himself why he had to endure such selfish man clinging unto him when he only needed him for fun! "You're writing a novel again, aren't you?" Wangji spat accusingly and Wuxian's body stood there like a motionless corpse.
"I love you Lan Zhan!" Wuxian spluttered in response and Wangji's contained wrath seeped into the moment. Memories again flooded his mind like a poison that consumes him and drains all the love left in him. Those days of misery and desolation while he looked for Wei Ying. Those sleepless nights he had been thinking what had happened to him, if he was alright and alive somewhere. And for what? Only for Wangji to realise he was never been loved by the man he had treasured so much and had willingly given his feeble heart.
