It had been a long day at the hospital for Veer and it will be a very long night at home with the ceremony. As he was driving home, Veer let his mind wander off to the sound of the soothing raindrops. He started smiling and when he almost reached home, he realized he was thinking of Rani. He had remembered the first time they met and how she had the strength to stand up for herself in front of him.
But...why? He shouldn't be thinking of her. He shook his head and parked the car. He walked into the palace and remembered that today was Kiara and his Mehndi ceremony. He wasn't excited at all.
Veer went upstairs to get ready before Ranisa would get upset at him.
On the other hand, poor Rani was exhausted. This new style of life was so difficult for her: she wasn't getting enough sleep at night and she wasn't getting any breaks during the day. Every time she finished some work, Kumud would come by and assign her to a new task.
Currently, Rani was working on setting up the water bottles for the guests.
Rani: "Arey Matha Rani, mujhe yahan kyu kaam par laga diye? Mujhe toh bauji ke saath rehna tha."
(Oh Matha Rani (her god who she believes in), why did you get me to be working here? I wanted to be with my dad.)
Feeling a little dizzy, Rani decided to grab a water bottle to quench her thirst, but before she could even twist off the lid, Shanti saw her.
Shanti: "Rani! Tu ye kya kar rahi hai? Mehmaan ka pani? Arey! Yeh ham saare servants ke liye nahi kai! Hum yeh pani ke layak nahi hai."
(Rani! What are you doing? The water for the guests? Oh god! This is not for us servants. We aren't worth this water.)
Rani didn't understand.
Rani: "Lekin pani toh pani hi hai. Jo bottle meh hai ya kunwe se mila, dono to same hai na?"
(But water is just water. Doesn't matter if it's in a bottle or from a well, they both are the same, right?)
Shanti didn't know how to respond. Instead, she ran into the kitchen and just bought Rani a glass of water.
Shanti: "Abhi kaam karo aur inti baat mat karna."
(Now just do your work and don't talk so much.)
Rani huffed at Shanti and got back to setting up all the tables.
——
Soon, all the guests started to arrive and Ranisa called Kumud.
Rajeshwari: "Kumud, woh mehndi wali kahaan hai?"
(Kumud, where is the mehndi artist?)
Kumud: "Maine Shanti se bhola tha ke woh unko bulayengi toh meh unko pooch leh thi hoon."
(I had asked Shanti to call her, let me ask her.)
Rajeshwari: "Haan, lekin jaldi se usko bulao, saare mehmaan aagaye hai."
(Yes, but be quick, all the guests have already arrived.)
Kumud: "Ji Ranisa."
(Yes Ranisa.)
Kumud ran off to ask Shanti about the mehndi artist before Ranisa would lose her temper.
Kumud: "Shanti, woh mehndi artist kabhi aati hai?"
(Shanti, when is the artist coming?)
Shanti was terrified...she had completely forgotten to call her!
Shanti: "Uh...woh...main unko phone karke pooch thi hoon."
(Uh...I'll call and ask her.)
When Shanti called the artist, she denied it at first. She had such a busy day so she couldn't reach on time. The artist requested that she would at least have to be a little later, so she would need time to reach and get through all the traffic.
