Chapter 11

Rani woke up to the sun shining brightly in her eyes. She didn't smell any food and she didn't hear any pots or pans. This couldn't have been the kitchen. Rani slowly sat up and rubbed her eyes. She stretched and looked around.

Rani: "Arey, main toh kitchen mein soyi thi, toh iss guest room mein kaise aa gayi?"

(Wait, I was sleeping in the kitchen, then how did I get in the guest room?)

Just then, Veer walked in. He didn't say a word, but his eyes said it all. Rani realized that he had brought her in here. She didn't know what to say. Even if she said a simple 'thank you', it could mean so many different things.

She waited for him to do something. Veer handed her a glass of water and 2 pills.

Veer: "Painkillers."

She nodded and ate the painkillers. Veer then proceeded to open up his first-aid kit. Without speaking, he treated all her wounds. When he lifted her wrist, she hissed. It was all swollen and out of instinct Veer said.

Veer: "Aap... aap theek ho?"

(Are you... you alright?)

Rani started crying in pain.

Veer: "Shhh."

He started to blow on her hand as he applied the cream.

Veer: "Shhh, sab theek hai. Main hoon yahaan."

(Shhh, everything is fine. I am here with you.)

Rani stopped crying and as she waited for him to put on a bandage, she saw that Veer had a huge cut up his arm.

Rani: "Dakter Saab, ye kaise hua? Kal?..."

(Dakter Saab, how did this happen? Yesterday...?)

They both remembered yesterday's events and Veer cleared his throat. He packed up his kit and left Rani in the room alone.

She slowly stood up. She went to the bathroom and then she walked out to the servant's quarters. Rani got ready and then went down to the living room to start her day. She was a daughter-in-law, everything would be very different now.

Veer was pacing around his room. He wanted to go and speak with Ranisa, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. He had made her feel humiliated, he felt ashamed to look her in the eye. Veer decided to get dressed and go straight to the hospital so he wouldn't have to confront anyone.

Veer went downstairs and all he wanted was for everything to go back to normal, but he couldn't go back in time and fix anything. He looked his father in the eye, but Digvijay just looked away. He saw Dadisa sitting on the sofa and he remembered that he had to give her medicine, but then Rani walked in holding a tray with the correct pills and a glass of water.

Oh, Rani, he thought in his head. She is so sweet and caring, he can't leave her or give her a divorce, it would be such injustice, but then again, his mom, Ranisa, would hate him for the rest of his life.

Vikram: "Bro, aap wahaan kyu kare ho? Neechay ao, breakfast bhi khana hai."

(Bro, why are you standing there? Come down, we need to eat breakfast."

Veer walked down to Vikram.

Veer: "Nahi Vikram, mujhe urgent mein hospital jaana hai, main badme khalunga, hospital main. Meri fikr mat karna. Batao mujhe, Ranisa kahan hai?"

(No Vikram, I need to urgently go to the hospital, I'll eat there later. Don't worry about me, but tell me where Ranisa is.)

Vikram: "Mom baar hai. Woh Kiara ki maa se baat kar rahi hai."
