important note at the end! :)

My foot taps up and down rapidly on the floor of the Uber.

George notices, setting his hand on my thigh to still my leg.

"Sorry.", I mumble.

"What are you nervous about?", he questions me.

"My parents.", I mumble, looking out the window.

I know the exact route we're on.

I could walk the rest of the way.

"It'll all be okay.", George attempts to assure me.

I rest my hand on top of his, finally looking at him.

"What brought you two to Chicago?", the driver attempts to strike up conversation with us.

"My brother is getting married this weekend.", I politely reply, not wanting to ignore him.

The man nods, not saying anything else.

It's a little awkward until I see my house slowly enter my vision.

My nerves start spiking a little bit, and I know that the anxiety is visible on my face.

I take my bags out of the back of the car when he parks, and I wait for George to follow me.

"If we just lay low, we should be okay.", I mumble.

I'm not quite sure if I'm telling him or myself.

There's a lot of cars parked around the house, so I know it's going to be busy.

I slowly push open the side door, peeking my head in before opening it all the way.

"Finley!", I hear a screech as soon as I enter the kitchen.

Before I can even figure out who it is, I'm being smothered in a tight hug.

"Okay, Mom.", I laugh a little, tapping at her shoulder to let go of me.

"I'm just so glad you finally decided to come visit. We were starting to think you were dead!", she exclaims.

I awkwardly smile, taking a step away from her.

"Who is this?", Mom turns to look at George.

"This is my boyfriend, George.", I introduce him.

"Nice to meet you.", George nods his head, sticking out his hand.

My mom ignores his hand, and he drops it back down to his side.

This is already a disaster.

I shoot George an apologetic look, silently apologizing for Mom.

He gives me a smile back as if to tell me not to worry about it.

"Honey, Finley is home!", Mom shouts into the living room.

My dad gives me a short hug, not one for a lot of affection.

A familiar figure steps up to greet me.

This time, I give him an enthusiastic hug.

Archer, my brother, happily returns the hug.

"I'm glad you came.", he says as we pull away.

"Dad, Arch, this is George.", I introduce him again.

I feel like George has been ignored so far, so I'm glad when Archer shakes his hand.

My dad just scans him.

"You two can go sit out in the living room with the rest of the family. They're all just telling stories about Arch and stuff.", Mom explains.
