George heard Clay's car honk outside. His wounds were already bandaged with the help of his sibling, Alex. It was wonky because they did it in a rush for it was done at the last minute. George quietly hopped on the stairs and looked down, hands on the strings of his navy blue string bag. He could feel the shame rushing through his whole body as he felt the presence of his parents in the kitchen eating lunch.
"Aren't you gonna eat first?" His mum asked which made him looked up to only shake his head no. His mum nodded, empathy written on her face but George didn't see it for he looked back at the tiles again. George's mum gave him a sympathetic smile even George himself can't see it.
George walked out and closed the door behind creating a small click and a thud. He ran towards Clay's car and opened the door and again, closed it next to him before kissing Clay lovingly on the lips. He just hoped that the windows were tinted.
"Hi! Let's go?" Clay asked and George said a small 'yeah' whilst nodding his head heavily.
Clay moved a circular motion on the steering wheel as the car turned in a corner. George could feel the push as it turned like a wave hitting him.
They arrived at the fast-food restaurant and ordered foods including rice and chicken adobo. George has never heard about the dish before but Clay did. Clay said that it was good so George completely gave in and trusted Clay.
They got back to Clay's condominium and ate there. When Clay opened the plastic box that contains the chicken adobo, the whole condo was filled with the essence of the dish. It smelled sour but sweet and George was now beyond excited to try the dish out.
He excitedly rubbed his hands together as he grabbed the plastic box full of rice. He grabbed his spoon and fork and stabbed one of the chicken legs with it. He ate a strip of it and just how it smelled like, it was sour but sweet. The tender chicken meat was crushed by his strong teeth as he tilts his head back from the tastiness. This might be his favorite dish, ever.
They ate in comfortable silence and when they finished Clay grabbed the plastic box and washed it. George remembered the reason why he's here. He could feel the anxiety rush through him like a broken water dam.
He waited for Clay to finish, wanting the time to just stop from now on. He helped Clay dry the plastic boxes and put them in a cabinet. They stood in front of each other for a moment as George hugged Clay completely out of nowhere. He just needed it for comfort.
He knew that it was a dumb idea not to tell Clay first but at the same time he didn't want Clay to put him in Clay's back and feel like a burden. He's scared that Clay's gonna be mad and is going to be turned off for George for being dumb and stupid but he'd feel bad even more if he wouldn't tell Clay about it.
"I need to tell you something," George said but was suppressed by the fabric of Clay's hoodie. Clay didn't respond but continued to rub circles around George's back. The single warmth made George tear up. Why was he even crying? He's such a crybaby. George pulled away and grabbed Clay's wrist towards the couch. They sat on the couch for a second before George spoke up.
"I... I may or may not have told my parents about us" George said looking at his lap, his fingers fiddling.
"Oh... Uhm- what happened next?" Clay asked but immediately regretted it as he saw a tear dropped from George's eyeballs to George's hands.
"T-they did- didn't like i- it" More and more tears flowed out from George's brown irises sliding down on his cheeks like a glass window on a rainy day. Clay went to hug George and whispered sweet things in the smaller's ear. George hugged back and continued to sob.
"Is that all you want to get off your chest?" Clay whispered in George's ear, still hugging George as he felt George tensed up. He paid no attention to it thinking it was just because he was crying.
"Y- yeah" George stuttered out and silently cursed himself for being suspicious and Clay was suspicious of George.
"Lay in bed with me," Clay said as soon as he pulled away, looking at George's tear-stained face. George nodded.
Clay unexpectedly grabbed George's damaged wrist as he stood up. George made a hissing sound and immediately slapped his hand on his mouth. He could feel the wetness of his face transfer on his sweaty palms. Clay turned around and eyed George suspiciously.
"I- it's nothing," George said as he saw the suspicious glint on Clay's green eyes. It's almost like a magnifying glass under a sunray in George's skin. Of course, Clay didn't believe it and grabbed the rim of George's sleeve and rolled it up. And there it was. A white cloth-looking bandage wrapped around his wrist, blood seeped through and very noticeable. Clay turned and hugged George again. The hug was not normal, more because of worry.
He promised himself to take care of George and he failed. Now it was Clay's turn to cry. His eyes felt stinging as his eyesight turned blurry. He pulled away and cradled George's face with both of his hands, looking straight on the others also teary eyes.
"Will you promise me to never do that again?" Clay asked George, concern was visibly dented on his green irises.
"Will you promise to tell me everything if you need help?" Clay added as a tear slid down on his face. George nodded and said a small 'promise' and that's what Clay only needed. They hugged again, Clay caressing George's hair as they did.
"Promise" He heard George repeated the word. It sent vibration through the fabric of his hoodie.
