"well, i guess we could always see what coach says, it'll be second years call though," reon shrugged.

semi sat with his friends at the table during their break period. as he usually did. reon, tendou, ushijima and semi always hung out majority of the time. semi was half listening to the conversation, still a little in his thoughts.

it had been a good week since he spoke with chiyo. they were supposed to meet tonight and she was going to give him an update on how kaori responded.

"—semi will be cool with it anyway," reon said looking to him.

everyone looked to him, waiting for his answer.

"erm, yeah," semi agreed without even knowing what he was agreeing too.

"see, what did i say," reon laughed patting his back. "anyway, i gotta catch kaori before next period, i borrowed her homework so i need to give it back,"

"do your own homework," semi scolded him.

he hated the fact reon did that to her sometimes, kaori was a people pleaser and had a bad habit of not saying no to people. and reon knew that took advantage of that fact. so did tendou.

"i tried, it was too hard. she offered, i didn't just take it," reon defended himself.

semi rolled his eyes.

the rest of the day went by pretty quick, practice afterwards was tiring more so than normal. which was weird considering it was the school break soon. but the coach was not letting up on drills. it was tiring.

semi rushed to the library in his volleyball jacket and shorts, not bothering to change to go see chiyo. he was too desperate to know the answers he had been waiting for all week.

she sat where she was last time, the corner where no one would see them. and he sat down quickly, his knee bouncing up and down anticipating good news.

chiyo looked at him, her nose scrunched again and she leaned away from him.

"could you not have showered or something after practice?" she asked him.

"will you just hurry up and tell me what she said," semi said annoyed.

chiyo smirked, she giggled a little and pushed herself back on her chair lightly, balancing on the back two legs delicately.

"you rushed over, cute," chiyo sneered.

"answers," semi said pointedly.

"yes, yes," chiyo rolled her eyes, setting her chair back on four legs. "you sure you want to know?"

semi frowned a little. "what's that supposed to mean?"

"it means it's not the response you've been hoping for, you still want to know?" chiyo told him honestly.

semi felt his mind go blank.

not the response you've been hoping for.

so what had she said? did he even want to know? was he not just happy being painfully unaware. did he need to know. semi felt his hands go clammy, wiping his palms on his shorts material that stuck to his thighs. he breathed in.

regardless, he needed to know. maybe it would help him move on if she didn't feel the same. he had been reading into everything like he had always thought. at least this way he could keep her as a friend.

"tell me," he nodded.

"she laughed in my face," chiyo told him.

semi felt his heart tighten in his chest, the feeling of rejection sinking all over his body, his legs felt heavy.
