I stood at the observation deck with Izzie, George, and Cristina. Izzie had some grand idea to throw a party tonight at Meredith's house so we could all meet her new boyfriend since he was in town.
"George, we need more ice and chips," Izzie barks at him.
"Iz who else did you invite?" he asks.
"Just some people from peds."
"We said the list was for jocks only. Surgery, trauma, plastics," I huff.
"You invited preschoolers to Meredith's house. Next you'll be inviting the shrinks," Cristina laughs. Izzie looks away ashamed. "Oh my god she invited mental defects."
"Meredith is going to be so angry. She thinks this is a small get together, remember? A meet-your-boyfriend cocktail thing," George whines.
"Oh grow a pair, she'll tell Meredith. It's just a few more people," I argue.
"Exactly Rachel. I'll tell Meredith, I promise," Izzie says but I can see George and Cristina giving her a doubting look.
"Why are you wasting the only weekend you have with your boyfriend in town on a lame party? Must be pretty bad in bed," Cristina says.
Izzie laughs and rolls her eyes, "No. I just want him to meet some of my friends while he's finally here."
"Right, geeks in scrubs are your friends." Cristina's pager goes off and she stands up to leave. "Sounds like bad sex, sucks for you girlfriend," and she walks away. Of course, Alex walks over to us.
"I heard there's a party tonight at Meredith's," Alex says.
"News to me," Izzie says while rolling her eyes.
"No party at all," I add. Alex just walks away.
I got to work with Izzie again this week since I was "sick" last week. However, we did more party planning than working. I now had to go to the store with George later to go get ice, chips, and more drinks since she didn't trust him to do it on his own. This was not a small get together anymore by any means. I wasn't worried about that right now, at the moment my focus was on our patient, Mr. Sterman.
"Good morning Mr. Sterman! Alright, let's see about getting you out of here today. How does that sound?" Izzie asked very pleasantly.
"Pretty okay, I just never want to have a bowel obstruction again," he tells us.
"Really? That's a new one. People usually request for them all the time," Izzie jokes. Her and Mr. Sherman laughed and I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
"Dr. Stevens lets just get to discharging Mr. Sherman please," I order. She glares at me and turns back around to our patient.
"Are you keeping down clear fluids? Have you pooped yet?" Izzie asks while still examining the patient.
"I'm not sure," Mr. Sherman replies.
"Sir I think you would know. Have you passed gas yet?" I ask.
He hesitates a little bit before saying, "Yes."
"Are you sure you're telling the truth? If not I can bring in my handy-dandy lie detector tool," Izzie warns him. What is this, Mickey Mouse? I just roll my eyes.
"Fine, no. I shouldn't lie, I know that. I went to medical school," Mr. Sherman admits.
"You did?" I ask.
"Yeah but I dropped out my last year at clinical. It was too many hours and I was dealing with a very difficult divorce. So I do research now. And I have a life, family. No offense to either of you," he tells us.
