From a Whisper to a Scream

Many people don't know that the human eye has a blind spot in its field of vision. There's a part of the world that we are literally blind to. The problem is, sometimes our blind spots shield us from things that really shouldn't be ignored. Sometimes our blind spots keep our lives bright and shiny.

I get into work this morning and everyone is standing around George, who is holding a chart in his hands. George and I are officially broken up. I'm not sure if we've ever been together, but I'm sure that we aren't anymore. I didn't sleep with Mark either at the bar the other night, I knew in my gut that it was a bad idea.

"Today is finally the day people. Today is the day when dark and twisty Meredith disappears forever. And bright and shiny Meredith takes her place. You're probably not going to want to be friends with me anymore because of the sheer intensity of my happiness, which will make your teeth hurt. That's okay, because life is good. Life is good. What's going on guys?" Meredith asks us, finally realizing nobody is paying attention to her.

"George's dad got admitted last night," I tell her.

"Oh my god, is he okay?" Meredith asks.

"He passed out, he hit the floor and fractured his clavicle," Izzie tells her.

"His clavicle is fine. Callie said it's fine," George says to us.

"Are those his AM labs?" Meredith asks.

"Complaining of severe abdominal pain," Alex reads off of his chart.

"He doesn't have peritoneal signs, that's good," Cristina mentions.

"Has anybody seen..." Bailey begins to say as she walks over to us.

"I was just looking at it," George tells Bailey.

"Don't you think me reading it is more important than you reading it?" Bailey asks him.

"Sure. Fine. He's going to be fine," George says. I feel terrible for him, I really do.

"You're on SCUT today. You'll be distracted. Lopez will also be on SCUT today to make sure you're distracted at all times," Bailey orders. I huff and she glares at me.

"No I'm not..." George begins to say before he gets interrupted.

"Family members do not treat family members. Period. SCUT," Bailey orders us. I'm about to argue with her, but then she says, "Now!"

We walk away with Bailey and George starts to argue with her. "I don't see why I can't help with my dad's endoscopy," he argues.

"What about the no working with family rule do you not understand?" Bailey asks him.

"I'm not asking to do the procedure..." he argues.

"Fine. Pick an intern," Bailey tells him.

"What?" George asks me.

"I'm being kind. You want an intern assigned to your dad's case? Fine. Pick an intern. Just can't be Lopez since she's stuck with you all day today, I'll make sure of that one. Pick an intern right now," Bailey orders him. I sigh. I would rather do anything than work on SCUT today. George picks Cristina for the surgery.

"I can't believe you just... you just decannulated a heart all by yourself," George says to Cristina in shock.

"I did not decannulate a heart by myself. I assisted Dr. Burke, who decannulated a heart," Cristina corrects him.

"Why are you being modest? Modest looks very weird on you," I tell her.

"It's really no big deal Rachel," she shrugs.
