In the OR, time loses all meaning. In the midst of sutures and saving lives, the clock ceases to matter. 15 minutes. 15 hours. Inside the OR, the best surgeons make time fly. Outside the OR however, time takes pleasure in kicking our asses. For even the strongest of us, it seems to play tricks. Slowing down, hovering... until it freezes, leaving us stuck in a moment, unable to move in one direction or the other.
At Meredith's house, Izzie is laying on the bathroom floor. She hasn't moved from there ever since she quit her job and Denny passed away. "Izzie. Izzie come on out!" Alex yells at her as he bangs on the door.
"Okay, she's been in there all night. We really have to do something," George says.
"Yeah," We all agree and nod.
George was the first of us to go into the bathroom and try to talk to her. While George is in the bathroom, Alex left to go to the hospital and work. Meredith and I are making sandwiches in the kitchen as Cristina watches us. "Why are you two making sandwiches again?" Cristina asks.
"It's what you do when someone dies. You cook," I tell her.
"Yeah yeah. I know what to do when someone dies. I am a jew. I know food and death. It's Shiva," Cristina says.
"Is it Shiva even if she's Catholic?" I ask Cristina.
"Well Shivas what I know how to do. So yeah. It's Shiva. And if we're sitting Shiva for Denny, then we should order in because making sandwiches is not the same thing as cooking," Cristina explains to us.
"Sandwiches are comfort food though," Meredith says.
"Oh what's wrong with you?" Cristina asks her.
"Everything with me is fine. It's Izze we're worried about here," she says.
"What did you do?" Cristina asks her.
"Denny died. Burke got shot. Let's just have some perspective and remember that what I did is a tiny, slightly small..." Mereidht begins to say.
"Whatever just spit it out already Mer," Cristina interrupts.
"I lost my panties at the prom last night in the exam room," Meredith admits to us. Cristina laughs and I put my sandwich I finished making down on the counter in shock.
"You had sex with Derek in an exam room at the prom?" Cristina asks.
"Yes," Meredith tells us.
"Wait, last night you and Shepherd did it? You and McDreamy did the nasty-nasty at the prom?" I ask her.
"Rachel!" Meredith yells at me.
"We're not judging you Mer. I think we're both just trying to wrap our minds around the whole thing. I mean you're with Finn. He's with Addison," Cristina says, still shocked.
"He's married to Addison for gods sake," Meredith says.
"Okay. Well what did Derek say about this?" Cristina asks her.
"He said 'Meredith, what does this mean'?" Meredith tells us.
"Okay, so he has sex with you and hes standing there all McGuilty and all he can say for himself is 'what does this mean?' What does this mean though?" I ask her.
"I don't even know what this means," Meredith shrugs.
"Are you going to go back to Finn and continue your relationship thing with him? Is Shepherd leaving his wife for you?" Cristina asks Meredith. Meredith just ignores our questions and continues to make sandwiches. The doorbell rings and I walk over to answer it. Callie was standing at the front door.
