the bright sun blares through the window across my closed eyes, and i turn over, burying my face in my pillow. i flip onto my back again and squint my eyes open very slowly, peering around the quiet room. i listen to the low hum of traffic starting up outside, and sit up to look out the window. the busy city below me was really amazing to observe.

"cool, right?" weston comments from behind the couch, startling me.

"jesus," i laugh nervously and rub the sleep from my eyes. "you scared me."

he rubs his neck with his palm. "sorry."

i rotate my neck to face him fully, and he's wearing a plain black tee and grey sweatpants. forgetting that i'm basically staring at him, our eyes meet accidentally, and i quickly fix my gaze onto the gaming set up in the corner of the room. weston wanders off into the kitchen to fill up a glass of water, and i focus my attention to the window again. my heart starts thumping faster, why is it doing that?

"there's this bagel place kalynn and i go in the mornings sometimes, we could get breakfast from there?" weston leans his forearms on the counter and his sleeves pull up almost to his shoulders, surprisingly revealing two strong arms.

i scratch the back of my head. "uh yeah sure, whatever's fine."

"cool."

we sit in silence for a few moments before weston goes back into his room and shuts the door without a word. i lay down on my back again and scroll through my instagram feed before setting my phone beside me and falling asleep again. the light coming through the windows only gets brighter, so i wake up 20 minutes later.

kalynn appears in the kitchen after a few more minutes of scrolling, and i'm happy to see her.

"good morning!" she greets with a tired smile.

"hey!"

she sits at the island and i hear a few tiktok sounds coming from her phone. "what do you wanna do for breakfast?"

"you're asking the wrong person," i reply, and she facepalms.

"right, sorry."

"well, actually, weston mentioned a bagel place near here? he said it was good." i suddenly remembered our conversation.

"of course he did," kalynn states, as if its an obvious fact that weston loves bagels or something.

i tilt my head. "why?"

she turns her phone off and begins making gestures with her hands while she speaks. "whenever we have someone over for the first time, he always suggests the bagel place for breakfast. i don't know why, and he's never told me, but i think it's because the way to get there lets you see a lot of the city."

"so he wants to, like, get people familiar with the area?" i question.

she shrugs. "guess so."

"hm."

i start to pick at my fingernails out of habit. what kalynn told me about him almost makes me smile. i think it's sweet that he wants people to get adjusted to the city. i'll have to thank him for that.

almost as if my thoughts caused it, weston walks out of his room and sits next to kalynn at the island. "did sav tell you about the bagels?"

sav? only my mom calls me sav, i didn't think weston would think to use it.

kalynn smirks at his choice of words. "yes she told me about the bagels."

"alright kalynn koury, i can go pick them up if you just tell me what you want," he offers.
