a/n i finally ordered sinjin merch after debating it for like a year woooo everyone clap

i outstretch my arms on either side of me, reaching for weston automatically in my half-awake state. i feel out the open space next to me and spread my palm on the sheet, grasping at nothing. dazed and confused, i sit up quickly, immediately feeling dizzy at the action. how did i get on the pull out couch?

my head starts to feel heavy, but it's bearable. the sun also streams through the open blinds brightly, and i screw my eyes shut and lay flat on my back. after a few minutes of trying to go back to sleep, i hear the low creak of a door opening come from the corner of the room.

"sav?"

it's kalynn.

i raise my head a few inches to look up at her, squinting. "yeah?"

my voice is scratchy, probably from yelling over the loud music. i cough to try to get rid of the uncomfortable feeling.

kalynn tiptoes over to me and sits down at the edge of the couch by my feet. i gather the strength to perch back on my forearms, my elbows digging into the cushion.

"are you okay? need anything?"

i go to lick my lips, and quickly notice i have cottonmouth.

"water," i croak.

she nods and goes off into the kitchen, and i slump back down onto my side.

"hey, what time is it?" i call, my voice breaking throughout the sentence.

"12:30."

my jaw drops. "in the afternoon?"

"yes!"

i lift a hand to my forehead. "jeez."

weston's bedroom door opens loudly, and he stumbles through the living room. he has dark, purplish circles under his eyes and ruffled hair. seeing how he looks makes me wonder what i look like, and i scramble for my phone to check.

"have any of you seen my..." i stop searching under the covers at the realization as my voice trails off. "...phone?"

weston rubs a hand under his jaw. "i think it's in my room."

his raspy voice startles me a little, but kalynn's query snaps me from the thought.

"why would it be in your room?"

i look up at her blankly, trying to come up with an answer. "i might've left it in there when i got him water last night."

she nods and goes back to filling up the water glass, unbothered. weston lets out a small sigh of a relief that only i can hear, and i glare at him with questioning eyes. he shrugs and looks over at kalynn momentarily to indicate that he can't talk about what happened while i was asleep with her in the room. i lay back down. duh.

"so... ocean city in two days?" weston brings up awkwardly.

kalynn brings a full glass of water over and holds it out to me. "i'll do the laundry today, so make sure everything you want washed for the trip is in a laundry basket."

i gulp the water down as quick as i can. weston sits down at the counter with a wince and a small "yes ma'am," as a reply.

she goes back into her bedroom to collect clothes, and weston and i sit in silence.

"why did i wake up out here?" i whisper at him, spreading my fingers and gesturing at the couch.

he clears his throat. "i didn't want kalynn to notice you sleeping in my bed so i carried you out here. duh."

i pull my lips back. "how the hell did you 'carry' me? i was carrying you home."

"okay okay!" he holds his hands up in defense. "i... walked you to the couch.... while you were half-awake."

scrunching my nose, i say, "i don't even remember that.."

"because you were also half-asleep," he states matter-of-factly. "it's the other part of being half-awake."

i roll my eyes and flip him off before getting off the couch to get my phone from his room.

a few lazy hours pass, and after kalynn finishes doing our laundry she pulls me into her room to "talk about something."

"oh god, what is it?" i ask her as she sits me down on her bed with her.

"nothing bad, you'll be excited." she responds, waving a hand in the air.

i look around the room hesitantly. "okayyy.. so tell me?"

she pushes her face into her palms, making her sentence muffled. "i thicked eye slick."

my brows furrow as i try to make sense of what she said. "kalynn koury, you gotta speak up!"

"i kissed isaac!" she exclaims, her hands dropping down by her sides.

we stare wide eyed at each other for a few moments before i begin to laugh. "you're kidding!" she shakes her head and my jaw drops into a smile. "when? when did it happen?"

she takes a deep breath before replying. "it was after you left. well, he kissed me actually. we had been flirting and talking all night, and it was just nice to get out of the house and meet someone in real life and not on the internet."

kalynn tells me all of the details, like how she got his number and what they talked about. as she ventures deeper into the conversation, i suddenly notice myself wishing i could talk and gossip about boys with one of my best friends, but that's just not how it is anymore.

a/n ok that ending was lowk sad sorry and also yuck short chapter but next chapter will be the beginning of the beach trip hooray
