a/n perfect places, buzzcut season, and tennis court are the best lorde songs i will not be taking criticism

"who's ready for me to kick their ass in boardwalk games?" i gloat as we leave the restaurant.

"pshhh," weston rolls his eyes and kalynn scoffs dramatically. "game pigeon isn't my only strong suit."

"oh really?" i narrow my eyes at him.

"yep, i'm a man of many talents."

kalynn laughs at his choice of words. "i don't know about that."

-

kalynn insists on going to the balloon pop game first, and to my surprise she wins two things first try.

"i told you," she tells us as the worker hands her a gigantic stuffed giraffe and a smaller owl.

weston shakes his head back and forth slowly. "beginner's luck, let me try."

"beginner?" kalynn exclaims, her eyebrows raised. "you just don't want to admit i'm good."

weston waves her off and pays the worker. he hits one balloon. "okay pop off, look at me go!"

i stifle a laugh with my hand. "pop off?"

he turns to look at me with an elated expression. "yeah, pop off!"

"you literally hit the biggest balloon! that's not much of an accomplishment." kalynn tells him, and he shrugs.

"i still hit it!"

i cross my arms over my chest and lean back on my right foot, watching him miss his next two darts.

"spoke too soon i guess.." kalynn says quietly as the worker hands him a small unicorn.

"shut up," he nudges her in the ribs, and kalynn doubles over into a laugh.

i stand back and watch them, interjecting quietly. "alright, do you guys wanna move on?"

"you don't wanna try?" weston asks me, looking a little discouraged.

i shrug. "nah, i'm saving up my energy for skee ball."

he nods once and places the pad of his finger on his temple. "very smart savannah francis."

we walk down the boardwalk and see a clothing shop with shirts, sweatshirts, hats, etc and decide to go in.

i hold up a pale pink sweatshirt with a small "ocean city, nj" symbol on the right side of the chest. "kalynn, do you like this?"

she switches her attention from a pair of sweats she's holding and takes a look at the sweatshirt. "yeah i like it! you should get it."

i smile. "okay, i think i will."

"get what?" weston asks, walking over to us. he has a dusty blue t-shirt in his hands.

"this," i hold up the sweatshirt for him, and he takes it out of my hands.

i attempt to grab it from him, but he dodges my grasp. i let out a confused laugh. "what are you doing?"

he smiles, trying his best to hide it. "holding onto this so you won't pay for it."

i roll my head back and put my hands on my face. "oh my god, you have to stop doing this."

"you know he's not gonna let up," kalynn says before placing a hand on my shoulder and wandering away.

i turn back to him and inhale deeply. "fine, pay for that. can i do anything for you?"

"nope," weston boops the tip of my nose. "you already do the very most for me," he whispers the last part into my ear, and the humor in my expression disappears. my face heats, so i look down to avoid his gaze.
