3 days later - 2 days before kalynn's birthday

"i think we should go to target first," i say, clicking my seatbelt in place. "get the decorations and food out of the way, y'know?"

"true," weston comments from next to me.

colin nods from the backseat and i begin to drive out of the neighborhood. it's sort of refreshing being the one driving for once because no one has let me drive since before summer started. it's also refreshing not doing anything too exciting. these past few weeks of relaxation have been a dream, and i love hanging out with my brother, boyfriend, and best friend all the time. whether it's getting coffee, hanging out on the deck, or eating dinner together, we always have fun together.

the thought of these two weeks ending makes my stomach churn, and i have to stop myself from thinking about it too hard. i glance over at weston, and he looks back at me as if he can read my mind.

i focus my eyes back on the road and concentrate on getting kalynn's birthday decorations and a present for her. however, the one single thing keeping me from relaxing entirely somehow always manages to creep back up into my brain, making me feel guilty for not bringing it up yet.

but i can't help it. i don't want to ruin the little time we have left to spend with each other. i bite my lip to hold myself together in the car, but luckily colin's voice draws my attention elsewhere.

"where are we going after?"

"maybe johanson's again?" weston suggests. "we could probably find something in there for her, they have loads of crap."

i gasp with a smile. "oh my god! i know what i'm getting her!"

"what?" the two boys reply in unison.

"that black shirt she wanted the other day. i told her to get the other one, remember?"

weston makes an "o" with his mouth. "that's such a good idea."

colin crosses his arms and sighs. "well glad you're covered, but i still have no idea what i'm getting."

"you'll figure it out," i tell him assuringly. "but if you can't find anything, i'm sure she'd appreciate your calming presence at her party before she leaves for her flight."

he glares at me while i give him a wide grin in the rear view mirror.

-

weston picks out a cart as we walk in. he pushes it forward, standing on the bottom compartment so he glides down the entrance.

i roll my eyes subtly, trying to keep the gesture to myself. colin marches ahead next to him and i trail behind a bit, wishing kalynn were here. obviously that's impossible, we're shopping for her, but i just like spending time with her in places like these.

"where's the party section?" colin asks absentmindedly as i catch up to them.

i pinch the bridge of my nose and squint my eyes. "oh my god, have you ever been in a target before? over here."

weston pushes the shopping cart normally now as i walk beside him. i know that he knows where it is, he probably goes to target way more often than i do.

we walk down the decorations aisle and pick out birthday themed balloons and streamers.

"can we get those age balloons?" weston asks, his eyes basically lighting up.
