Shuri POV:
If anyone asked, I, Shuri, was not nervous. Nope, totally cool, 100% peachy, not at ALL worried about my beautiful, amazing, fragile looking, clumsy little girlfriend who hadn't contacted me in three days. That was sarcasm.
Yet again, I thought I heard the starting notes of the song I had set for her ringtone. Except this time, it kept going, her beautiful voice calling out to me.
'...What if we rewrite the stars?
Say you were made to be mine
Nothing could keep us apart
You'd be the one I was meant to find
It's up to you, and it's up to me
No one can say what we get to be
So why don't we rewrite the stars?
Maybe the world could be ours
Tonight...'
I dove for the phone, clicking the 'accept call' button and sliding into the soundproof closet. Her beautiful face popped up on the screen and I let out a sigh before screeching at half-volume "SOPH! ARE YOU OKAY?!"
Sophie nodded, then said "I'm out of that toxic place now, Shur. They found a guy who's apparently my genetic father or something? I don't know, but the test did reveal that I'm not related to the traitors at all." A/N In this, Sophie suspects that some group got ahold of Captain America's DNA and engineered her from it bc she knows her 'birth' mom is not her 'genetic' mom so it makes sense. She is a mutant/engineered human hybrid that was engineered even more to be whatever she is now (yes I changed it-Future Galaxy)
I squealed, then replied "That's amazing! Are you at your new place now?"
She nodded, then blushed. "Actually, this room is the closet. I'm planning on creating a nap hole in that little crevice, maybe a mural on the walls, a pride flag carpet, and the board with the pictures from when you visit."
Soph was so cute. And silly. Only she would live in a literal closet, but I understand completely. She's scared, and being in the open is the exact opposite of what you're supposed to do on the streets, much less if you have strange powers that make you stand out. I've learned to read her better than anyone, and even though we started out as two strangers paired up by a LGBTQ+ friendship site I would kill everyone in the universe then myself if something happened to my Lark.
"Shurs? You're frozen. Sheesh, you'd think the Wifi here would be decent!"
I shook my head. "Sorry Soph, I just got lost in your eyes a bit."
She blushed, which was my goal. We spent some time chatting, until she logged off to unpack before dinner. I fell back against the carpet of my closet and lost myself in the memories of how we met.
And... done! I finally, FINALLY clicked the last question on the quiz. I had found a site that claimed it was for 'promoting LGBTQ+ unity', but I had a sneaking suspicion it was actually a dating site, so I had taken my time on it.
A user profile popped up, under the name 'MoonlarkRising'. There was a beautiful painting of a bird flying up into the midnight sky, the northern lights in the background. Did whoever they were draw this?
A closer look showed that MoonlarkRising was Bi, and used female pronouns. Here goes nothing... I clicked on the icon, and before I could talk myself out of it, I sent a message. Cross my fingers it isn't too desperate sounding.
WildLesQueen: S'up?
MoonlarkRising: HI!!!
I'm so glad they finally assigned me a buddy!
I know I could talk on one of the group servers but I was hoping to find someone who understood!
WildLesQueen: OMG HI MOONLARK
I wanted to greet you in the most enthusiastic way possible but I was afraid ud hate it
MoonlarkRising: It's fine, Wild.
I will never judge you
I have plenty of stuff going on too
Including being ITC because of homophobic guardians
WildLesQueen: Oh. I'm sorry.
I don't really know how you feel because if I came out my family would be supportive.
MoonlarkRising: No need to feel guilty, Wild.
No hate here.
Over time, we got closer, sharing memes, helping one another through panic attacks, until eventually we swapped personal numbers, deleting the app we met on and taking our budding relationship to texting, calling, and when we realized we were IN THE SAME ROOM during a visit to NY maybe a year and a half ago, we dated in person.
Eventually, I worked up the guts to ask her to be my girlfriend, and even though I went back to Wakanda we still kept in touch.
One thing was for sure, if this biological father hurts her, it will be the last thing he ever does.
Bucky POV:
She is eating a burger with a throwing knife.
Frick. She's even weirder than her father, and that's saying something.
Did she inherit the serum? Does she have powers? How is she Steve's daughter if he was still on ice for the decade she was born, had been an ice cube for about a century?
All questions I was asking, and I'm sure I'd have more if her eating with that knife wasn't SO DISTRACTING.
Nat asked the teenager "Where did you get that knife? It's really cool."
She shrugged, then said "I stole Anaya from a bully who thought it would be smart to threaten a six year old in front of me."
She named the dagger. She named the flipping dagger.
Eventually, Steve got tired of watching her cut her food into chunks and then eat it off her dagger and cleared his throat. "We don't use weapons to eat here, Sophie."
Surprisingly, she shrugged again and set the dagger down, picking up the fork.
I felt a bit nervous having sharp objects near her, especially when she already had... more daggers than she should, I wasn't going to try to remember how many names she had said.
Then again, she could probably stab someone to death with a tomato soooooooo.
Eventually, Clint struck up a conversation. Sort of. "So, Scary Teenager. If you could have one quote to use in battle, what would you want it to be?"
With a straight face, she said "May the gods have mercy on my enemies because I sure as hades won't."
I think even Nat was scared. And that's saying something, because if Nat was scared, we were facing down something purely dangerous.
Think, think, what's something normal to suggest? "Movie Night?"
Ignoring the awkward, she replied "Why not? I'll be back in like five minutes."
So. I may or may not have created a new ship, Sophie and Shuri!
Just imagine that for a sec, okay?
And then come up with a ship name for them so we can take over the Marvel section of fanfics by storm, because obscure ships rule.
Bye, Galactlings!
