In certain contexts, I really hate these words. Do you want to know why? It's because they're always being applied to a canon character's feats and an OC's lack of personal accomplishment.
Too many words? Let me give you an example.
Canon: "The entire village contributed to throwing Naruto up into the air, celebrating his victory over Pein."
Fanon: "The entire village contributed to throwing me and Naruto up into the air, celebrating our victory over Pein."
Canon: "Because... My name... IS NARUTO UZUMAKI!"
Fanon: "Because... Our names... ARE MIRANDA AND NARUTO!"
See what I mean? I feel like so many OCs would be nothing without a canon character to do everything with them, as if they have no progression in the plot whatsoever. Honestly, if Naruto was a chain on this long ring of characters involved in each arc, the OC wouldn't be linked to the whole chain, it would just be linked to Naruto.
Be honest. Name a book that follows the main plot of Naruto where the OC isn't basically just riding on his success.
Now tell me if that book's OC is on Team 7.
Now tell me if that book had an OP OC that could basically do whatever they wanted.
Now tell me if you enjoy this book and I should keep going with it.
