Above: Black and white charecter representation of the middle school class of McHenry County. Merely for the purpose of listing the charecters and is not a perfectly accurate depiction of their appearance. Ex: Martin has blue hair. On that note, I totally didn't spell Bethany's name wrong on the sheet. Whoops! Don't tell Bethany...
We've been hiding in the old factory for about two weeks. Our rations are dipping fast. So far, we have made a few trips to nearby fields to try to gather food. Both trips barely improved our current situation. They have only allowed us to push our rations back a few days.
I haven't been able to shower yet. My class has made do by collecting water from nearby irrigators to bathe in. No soap. Not to mention the fact that the cement floors in the factory seem to always be covered in a thin layer of grime.
Jessica hasn't taken much of a toll with our situation. Her hair lays loosely in a messy bun most of the time these days. As for myself, exercising everyday has made a little bit of muscle peak out of my body. When I flex now, my muscles respond now with surprising agility.
I've started thinking about the book a little less, but the idea of it still lingers in my mind whenever my thoughts wonder. I've probably read the book more times than I can say. Each time discovering something I missed. I've memorized most of the...spells? Not that I believe they might work again. But I can't disperse what happend.
Mr. Buzzleboop, Trout, Bradly, and Shigeru are going to come back soon from an attempt to gather some food. We've already checked a few bean fields nearby. I think they were trying to head to a cornfield only a block away. Jessica and Beatrice had to time their departure carefully to make sure their were no goblins near.
I walk closely to the door where the rest of my class is circled in anticipation. Its deadly quite. No one can think of anything to say. We wait for only a few moments when the back door slams open and Mr. Buzzleboop and the rest of my class are revealed. The group pants hardly for a few seconds. Mr. Buzzleboop breaks the silence and shouts," Survivors! Thats why we were gone longer than expected!"
There is exited chatter amongst the other half of the class. "Okay everyone. Pack everything up. We leave now!" Lost in the conversation, I rush to my things and grab them quickly. It doesn't take long at all, I only have my bag, journal, and gardening tools inside. I made sure that Debra was tucked carefully in my belt.
When everyone finishes grabbing their belongings, which doesnt take more that two minutes, Mr. Buzzleboop gathered everyone by the door. "Okay gang, we found a camp of refugees in the outskirts of town in the woods. They have food and supplies. However, they are pretty far away so we need to book it as fast as we can. Stay together we'll be fine!"
After a deep breath, we sprint as fast as we can right behind Mr. Buzzleboop. We stop only a few times to catch our breaths and drink some water, but then begin running the next minute. My lungs, which are not accustomed to running this much, lead me to take more breaks and therefore be behind everyone else.
Jessica is toward the front with Mr. Buzzleboop and Bradly. Her friend Beatrice is leading close behind her. Thankfully, we don't see any trolls, and after a solid fifteen minutes of running and making stops, we arrive at a thick patch of trees. "This way," Mr. Buzzleboop says as he leads us to a small clearing in the forrest. My classmates gape in awe at the sight.
There is a big group of 10-15 huts made out of various material spread out neatly in the grass. I can see about forty people looking at us. Suddenly, my classmates and myself run to the people and look for our families. There is a wave of children asking, "Have you seen this parent or sibling? Is so and so here?" This of course includes myself. Quickly, I realize my aunts face is not in this crowd of people. I check once for her. I check again. There is jo sign of my aunt Bernadette.
"Please!" I shout to the crowd, "Has anyone seen my aunt, Bernadette?!" A man named Jimbob, who I recognize as one of my aunts coworkers, come to me and says frowning, "No, Bernadette was taken by the goblins along with half the town. We haven't been able to find her." I fall to the ground sobbing. This can only mean she's dead. Those nasty goblins ate her. I can feel the arms of some of the farmers try to grab me, but I resist their touch. Eventually, they take me to one of the huts to calm down...
