Aminah's Mantra Every Morning.

KUNMI

"You need to eat something Kunmi."

Mayowa said to me immediately we got back home. It was nightfall, around 10pm when she came to pick me from the hospital.

I didn't even want to leave.

Aminah still wasn't awake.

I wanted to stay there overnight. I wanted to be there when she wakes up but her brothers and dad wouldn't allow me to stay. Hassan made us all to leave, telling us that they'll call us when she wakes up.

I wasn't even going to wait for any call before showing up there tomorrow morning.

"Kunmi, you should eat something." She repeated while blocking the path that led to the stairs.

I wasn't even hungry.

I just wanted to go to my room and lie on my bed.

"I'm not..."

"You're hungry, Kunmi. When was the last time you ate something? Do you want to collapse before your friend wake up? Do you want her to wake up and meet you unconscious too? Even if it's not for you, then do it for her, you have to be strong for me."

I don't even think I can be strong for her.

She started to steer me towards the dinning and I allowed her.

I allowed her to pull out a chair for me, allowed her to push me to sit on the chair, allowed her to dish out the food for me.

"I know you like spag," Mayowa was telling as she took her seat beside me. She sat sideways so that she'd be be able to see me as I just kept staring at the plate of spag and plantain and meat sauce.

Staring at the plate with so much repulsion.

Those things... I couldn't get those things into my body.

I couldn't...

I pushed the plate away.

"I'm too tired to eat." I told her and I started to get up so I'd leave the dinning. I wanted to go to my room, lie down on my bed just to get away from everybody.

The only thing that I wanted, that I needed right now was to hear that Aminah was awake.

That's the only thing I wanted.

"Sit down, Kunmi." She said gently and she used her left hand to push me to the seat. "You need to eat. You have to eat something."

"I can't..." I wrapped my hands around myself, feeling that strange cold starting to take over. "I can't bring myself to eat, not with Aminah laying down on the hospital bed like that."
