MR. MIYAGI SAID nothing as he took the tree from Daniel's hands. "I figured we could sell it so we didn't have to close. I didn't want it to be my fault that your dream didn't come true. I was sure the new owner would take better care of it than it could take care of itself." He thought about what he had said.
"What am I talking about? How could anybody take care of it better than how you left it? After all, it's survived on a rocky cliff for over fifty years all by itself!" Daniel explained. Mr. Miyagi just places the tree in a clean pot, gently packing dirt around it. He adds moss on top of the dirt, then watered it slowly and carefully.
Then there was a knock at the door. Danny went over to answer it and there was a mailman standing on their porch. "Hi, Miyagi?" He says. "Yeah," Danny nodded. "Where do you want these bonsai trees?" The mailman asks. "Leave outside." Mr. Miyagi called. "Trees?" Daniel asked. He walked out and saw the many boxes of bonsai trees. "You bought all these?" He questions Mr. Miyagi.
"Hai. Sold truck," he explained. If Mr. Miyagi had an answer to their problems why didn't he just tell Daniel and saved him all the trouble? "When I woke up, you were gone." Said Mr. Miyagi. "I had to make a decision on the spot and I made it." Danny defended himself.
"I understand." Mr. Miyagi replied. "You do?" Danny replied, raising an eyebrow. He was surprised at this response. "Hai. But I don't support it." Miyagi replies. That was more like what he had expected. He had to try, just once more at least to get his friends help. "I don't stand a chance against this guy unless you train me," Danny reminds him.
"Understand that, too." Miyagi says. "Then you'll train me?" Danny asks eagerly, his face lighting up. "I will always train you, Daniel-San. But not for tournament. Cannot." He shakes his head. Ok, Danny had to think. He could train himself. He's learned enough from Mr. Miyagi to be able to train on his own for this.
He could train himself to fight. But could he train himself to win, was the question.

With just the first half of his mile jog for the morning, Daniel was already breathing hard. Even Darcy was doing way better than him. But she didn't have to worry about facing off Mike Barnes in the All Valley Tournament. "You've got to build up your wind," Darcy tells him. "Why? So there will be more of it to knock out of me at the tournament?" He retorts back.He was already discouraged, he didn't feel he was going to win this. But Darcy was on his side 100%. They began to jog again. Danny promised himself he wouldn't stop until they'd had gone at least three miles. A car then honked at them. Daniel and Darcy looked over to see it was Terry Silver inside, Kreese's friend. Daniel was glad to stop again, finally. He introduced Silver to Darcy. "Are you training for the olympics or something?" He questions, coming out of the car.
Danny explained that he was actually training for the All-Valley tournament. "Good for you. A champion should defend his title, after all. Kreese told me you have a lot of heart, kid. Know how to front sweep?" Silver asks him. Danny shook his head. "Learn," Was his response. "Most of these tournament guys are suckers for a good front sweep. You can catch them every time. You know," He added. "Since you're training by yourself, you might want to use a book I've got on sweeps. I'll drop it off at your place sometime." "Oh, thanks man!" He replied.
He planned on reading every bit of it he could get. Those books especially could be helpful to him. "Nice to see you," Silver said. Danny and Darcy waved to him. It made Danny feel better to know that there was somebody, even if he was a complete stranger, who wanted to help him out. "Come on, we still have more to do," He said to Darcy. He was ready to run four miles then and all without stopping once.
He was definitely going to win this tournament, without a doubt.
