chapter 18. counter balance

𝕊𝕠𝕟𝕘 𝕤𝕖𝕝𝕖𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟: 𝕒𝕥𝕠𝕞𝕚𝕔 𝕡𝕦𝕟𝕜 𝕓𝕪 𝕧𝕒𝕟 𝕙𝕒𝕝𝕖𝕟

AS DANIEL and Darcy left, Daniel couldn't help but to feel like Darcy was disappointed with him again. "Hey, look I'm really sorry about before. I honestly don't know what just came over me," he apologized genuinely.

"It's ok Danny. I'm not mad," she replies. He looks to her in shock. "You're not mad?" He raised an eyebrow. "No, otherwise I wouldn't have said I'm not mad." She smiled. Daniel smiled back. He explained to her that he realized after he punched Rudy that everything he'd been learning was leaning up to that. "I feel like I'm losing total control over myself," Danny says. "And on top of that, my best friend, Mr. Miyagi." He tells her with a sigh. 

Darcy really felt for Danny. She could tell he was under a lot of stress and was sad. "Danny, Mr. Miyagi's your best friend, like you said! He has faith in you. He loves you, and I can totally see it." She tries to comfort him. "Wait until he hears what I did," Danny sighs. "Well, I think he'd better hear it from you first." Darcy says. "I guess you're right." Danny replied. 

"Thanks. And thanks for still being on my side with all this," He adds. "Of course," Darcy smiles. Danny felt a little better. He was glad she wasn't angry with him this time. And he was also glad she had just told him that Mr. Miyagi had faith in him. He just hoped that he could make up with Mr. Miyagi as easily as he does with Darcy. He had to hurry back home that night. He said goodbye to Darcy, and they promised to call each other and keep in touch as often as they could. 

When Danny got home that night, he called the local hospital to see if Rudy was doing ok. They said they hadn't had anybody come in with a broken nose. Danny thought that was a little odd. Maybe he hadn't broken his nose after all, and he was worrying for nothing. He wanted to apologize to Rudy for not being himself and having no control like that, but if he couldn't find him, he couldn't apologize. But in the meantime, he needed to apologize to somebody else. 

Danny found Mr. Miyagi sitting in his garden, alone. The evening darkness surrounding them was quiet and cool. Danny came over to sit down next to him. He began to ruminate about everything that had been happening lately. He felt so guilty, that he started to cry. Mr. Miyagi waited until Danny was ready to talk. "I've been so angry with you for not teaching me. I didn't stop to think what I was really learning," Danny admits. 

"It was all wrong. Now I just feel...dead inside, I guess. I feel like the tree I killed--all broken and twisted. I'm just ripped apart. That Terry Silver guy was trying to train me for the tournament, but I got all messed up. I feel I hurt our friendship and that it's never gonna heal." Danny spilled everything. Miyagi was quiet for a while until Danny had stopped crying. "Miyagi show you something," He said. 

He stood up and walked through the house, Danny following him. There, on the front porch, was the bonsai rack with the natural bonsai Danny thought he had killed. It looked great to him. The broken branch was still alive, and the tree was even growing needles. "Everything can heal," Mr. Miyagi says. "It just takes time and care." 

"And strong roots?" Danny smiled a little. Mr. Miyagi agreed, and the two friends bowed to each other. Danny felt better that they could finally be friends again. "It's been lonely without you," Danny admitted to him. 

"Been lonely without you, too." He replied. "Well, I'm back now for good. And I'm not going anywhere else again. I just have to tell Silver I'm dropping out of his class. I won't be long, I promise." Danny explained. He didn't want to have to wait until the next day to tell Silver the news. 

He pulled out his car keys and headed down the driveway. "Want me to come with you?" Mr. Miyagi asks him. "I got myself in, I can get myself out. Thanks," Danny smiled. "Thank you, Daniel-San." With that, Danny went on his way to speak to Silver and stop this once and for all.
