As my birthday neared, the anticipation only intensified.
Willow and Vinnie were awful at hiding stuff from me, so I definitely knew they had something going on. I didn't know what it would be but I knew something was going to happen.
But for now, I was just sitting in my closet, figuring out what I should wear.
Believe it or not, but I've been here for a good hour and a half trying to figure out my birthday brunch outfit. I knew I wanted to wear black but I didn't know if I wanted to go out of my comfort zone and do animal print pants with a simple black top, or just do all black with a splash of color in the accessories.
I was stressing myself out honestly and just wanted to sleep.
Sleep sounded so sexy.
I spent the next 10 minutes looking through piles of clothes until I got a call from none other than my mother.
"Hello Mami." I say into the phone.
"We'll you don't sound so excited to here from your mother." She sighs. "Im sorry, I was just looking through my clothes because I'm trying to find something to wear but I'm not liking anything and I'm just frustrated."
"We'll you'll look beautiful in anything you wear... you get it from your mother, hello!!?" She says, making me crack a small smile.
"You always know how to make me smile, even when I'm feeling down." I laughed into the phone lightly.
"That's what I'm here for... Oh! I almost forgot, do you have that picture of you when you were a little baby and you dressed up for Halloween as that little mouse?"
"Uh? Yeah! I have it on my phone I'll send it to you right now. But why do you need it?" I ask, sending her the photo.
"Um... it's for my Facebook. You know I have to do my annual birthday post for my beautiful daughter." She replied, not sounding too sure. I brush her off though, as we continued to have this conversation about my birthday.
"I just can't believe my baby is not a baby anymore. You're getting older... I just want you to know how proud I am of you."
"Ma... You're already making me soft and it's not even my birthday yet."
"It's your birthday tomorrow and I'm feeling sentimental but you need to know it. I don't tell you how proud I am of you enough. I don't do it often because I think you already know it, but I feel like you deserve to hear it. You've been through a lot in the past two years. But you overcame it all. Believe it or not, but you inspire me. For only being 18 years old your a strong beautiful woman and I love you so much." She finishes. I could practically see the tears that would be falling from her face now.
"Mami, don't cry." I say into the phone, wiping the tears that had fallen from my face.
"Oh please! You're crying too." She laughs into the phone, making me laugh through the tears as well.
"We'll yeah you're making me cry by telling me all of that stuff. I don't view myself in the same light as you, so telling me this is just making me emotional you know."
"Of course it is, but you need to hear it. If you keep hearing it, you'll soon believe it and that's all I want. For you to believe that you're an amazing person because you are. But anyways, I have to go and do some stuff. I'll see you soon baby." My mother says into the phone.
