Korra's Love

Chapter 27 - The parents

As Korra waited outside the train station for Varrick she couldn't help but feel excited to be home. The frigid air entered her lungs with a sharpness that could only be felt this far south. She had taken a train from the airport to the outskirts of the city where Varrick offered to pick her up and bring her to her parents home as it was close to Varrick Global Industries headquarters. She couldn't wait to see them, it had been almost two years since she left for Republic City, and though they were in regular contact, she had missed them terribly. Varrick pulled up and waved to Korra. She began to gather her luggage and pull it over when he jumped out to see if she wanted some help. She was visibly shocked by this gesture as it wasn't like him at all. She accepted his help just to see if he would actually do it. He noticed her disbelief. "Hey, I'm just trying to be nice, I've got to work on being nicer if I'm going to get my wife back someday." Again, Korra stared at him in utter shock. "But you just left her in Republic City so you wouldn't have to see her." He gave her a sideways glance. "Ya well I have a plan. Get in the car kid." Korra hopped in and looked at Varrick for further explanation. "Well? What's your plan." He smiled and tapped the steering wheel. "Well I figure once I'm not around she'll miss me, when she finally contacts me I'll be nicer....you know start to treat her the way I should've before she....well....you know." Korra nodded her head. She found it odd that they were both in a similar situation. Having to prove themselves to the women they loved. Though she definitely thought his situation was worse. "So...you think she's going to call you because she misses you?" He took a deep breath and let out a sigh. "I may not have been a good husband but I do know what would've made her happy. I know my wife, Kuvira won't make her happy forever." Korra raised her eyebrows. "If you say so." She wanted to tell him how into Kuvira she seemed to be and how they were always together. They were the clingiest couple she had ever known, but that seemed somehow cruel so she just sat in silence for the rest of the ride. They arrived and unloaded Korra's luggage, Varrick offered to stay and help but she insisted he didn't need to. She opened the door to let herself in and was immediately greeted by the family dog, a Great Pyrenees named Naga. She was so excited she knocked Korra down along with all of her luggage. Her mom came running from the other room squealing, "Korra! My baby girl, I can't believe your finally here!" She wrapped her in a hug and kissed her all over her face. "Hi mom...." She sniffed the air and could immediately smell her favorite foods. Noodles, dumplings and Antarctic Cod. "....is the food ready?" Her mom smacked her on the shoulder. "Nice to see you too!" She hugged her again and laughed. "Of course it's nice to see you mom....I've missed you and Dad so much....where is he anyway?" Senna began picking up her daughter's bags. "He went to the bakery for me, in all my excitement to see you I forgot to make the kale cookies." Korra smiled. "You didn't have to get cookies mom.....but I'm glad you did." She followed her mom to her room trying to take the bags so her mom didn't have to. "You get settled and I'll finish the food, it will be ready in 20 minutes. Also, make sure you call that girlfriend of yours." Korra got out her phone. She had been waiting to call Asami. She had bad reception earlier so decided to wait til now. She chose to FaceTime so she could see her. Her phone rang several times with no answer, Korra was starting to stress til Asami picked up at the last second. "Hey baby! I'm so sorry it took me a minute I had to leave a meeting." Korra gasped in surprise then laughed. "Shit you left a meeting for me? You didn't have to do that." Asami smiled and giggled. "Of course I did, your more important to me than these stupid meetings. Besides I'm kind of a badass and can do what I want." Korra smirked. "I know. You're a total badass." She sat down on her bed. "I really miss you Sami. You promise we can call everyday right?" " Yes, I definitely need to hear that sexy voice of yours every day." A slight blush fell across Korra's face. She turned away from the call as she heard her mother's voice. "Korra!!! Your father is home and it's almost time to eat!" Asami smiled widely. "Oh.....is that your mom? You sound alike...that's so cute. You better go eat, I'll call you later. I love you, send my regards to your parents." Korra laughed. "Your regards? You're just always in business mode.....but that's pretty hot. I'll tell them. Love you too." Korra said her goodbyes and hung up then ran out to see her dad. "Hey Dad!" She ran up to him and punched him on the arm. "Hey Kor..." He punched her back, then grabbed her for a hug. "How ya been? By the looks of your neck I'd say pretty good!" Korra pulled her shirt up trying to cover it then shot her dad a look as she motioned to her mom. "What? You don't want mom to know you're getting laid?" She winced as she put her hand over her face. Senna turned around with a serious look on her face. "Korra, move your shirt..." she pulled the shirt down so she could see Korra's neck. "....well that looks just awful. But good for Asami letting everyone know your taken." She laughed and went back to the food. "Asami um...says hi by the way....you know...she sends her regards." Korra laughed to herself. Senna turned back around. "Oh that's so sweet, she's probably the nicest girl you've dated. Based on what you've told me, the fact that she's put up with you for this long says a lot. It will be nice when we can finally meet her." Tonraq elbowed Korra. "She's also the most beautiful girl you've dated by far.....I've seen her on the news...." He raised his eyebrows "...way to go Kor." She rolled her eyes and began helping her mom set out food. "Dad I've literally sent pictures of her to mom." He laughed. " I know it's just cool that she's sometimes on the news." They ate then spent the evening catching up and talking about her new internship, asking all kinds of questions, wanting to know exactly what happened during the time she spent at Future Industries. She had partially explained some things to her mom but had yet to talk to them about her sexual addiction. She wasn't looking forward to it but she needed to have someone for support. She can't see Tenzin anymore but she knew her parents would be helpful. Tonraq passed her some cookies. "So....tell us more about Asami. How serious are things with you two?" Korra tried to hold back a smile but was unsuccessful. "Well, I feel like we're pretty in love. I can't imagine my life without her in it. I've never really felt this way about anyone." Senna smiled but then became serious. "Korra, if that's the case why did you......" Korra interrupted. "Well I need to talk to you guys about that. I mean you obviously know what's been going on and why I decided to come here, but I don't think you realize what a big problem I've had this past year." They both looked puzzled. "Well, you made a mistake with Asami but now you're back on track right?" Tonraq queried. "Ya, I am but right before Asami I had another girlfriend....and I cheated on her too....several times. I eventually broke up with her to be with Asami but then cheated on her as well. Basically I seem to have a "sexual addiction" according to my therapist." She looked up at them nervously waiting for any reaction. "Addiction? It sounds to me like you're just a jerk." Senna smacked her husband. "Tonraq! Let's just get some more information before we make her feel too bad." Korra put her hand through her hair. "It's ok mom, he's right I am definitely a jerk but it stems from this need I have for sex. I just can't say no to most women." Senna considered what Korra was saying. "You've always had this problem now that I think about it, I'll never forget that time you slept with my good friend Amka." Korra panicked. "Mom! What? What are you talking about!" Senna glared at her daughter. "Oh stop it Korra, I saw the texts on your phone, and she made it obvious though she tried not to. You two carried on for quite a while." Korra hid her face in her hands. "Mom, why didn't you say anything?" Tonraq looked appalled. "Ya Senna, what the hell.....you didn't tell me about this." Senna sat back on the couch. "Well....I was pretty angry but Korra was 19 so I felt like she needed to deal with that on her own. She didn't need me lecturing her about the decisions she was making. I figured if she wanted me to know she would tell me. I never looked at Amka the same though. I had to stop hanging around with her after that, I mean she was almost twice your age." Tonraq smirked. "Damn Kor! Do you do this all the time?" Korra was starting to feel emotional. "Ya.....that's the problem. But for a whole year before I started my internship I didn't touch anyone or have any girlfriends....I was doing so good. Anyway part of the reason I'm here is to prove to Asami that I can control myself and stay true to her while we're apart. Look she gave me this ring." She held up her hand. Senna held her hand to look at it. "That's beautiful honey. Do you have a plan? It seems to me that if you love her as much as you say you do, it shouldn't be too hard." Korra put her head down and teared up a little. "You're right mom, initially my plan is to just stay away from other women. I was hoping I could get your support as I try to keep myself on the right path." Tonraq shook his head in disbelief and patted Korra on the back. Senna gave him a confused look. "Of course we'll help you... I'll gladly monitor your phone." Korra snapped her head up. "Mom, I don't think you...." Senna interrupted. "Don't worry honey, I won't read your messages from Asami." Korra sighed. "Ok fine, maybe that's what I need." Senna rubbed her head and pushed her hair out of her face." No going anywhere but work unless at least one of us is with you, and you will have a curfew." Korra pulled back and gave her mom a look of surprise. "Mom really?" Senna stood up. "Yes really, I remember a lot more about this behavior of yours than you realize. So while you stay here those will be the rules if you want our help. Right Tonraq?" She looked to her husband for approval. "Oh.....uh..ya Kor, we don't want you to do anything that would hurt your new girlfriend or anyone else for that matter." As they were about to end their conversation Korra's phone rang. Her face lit up. "Hey guys it's Asami!" She answered to see her girlfriend smiling into the camera. "Hi baby!" Korra's smile widened. "Hey Sami, my parents are right here do you want to say hi?" Asami's face brightened. "Yes, absolutely!" Senna grabbed the phone. "Hello Asami, we just had a nice talk with Korra, don't you worry about a thing we will keep her in line for you." Asami giggled. "Hello Senna, it's so nice to finally meet you. Thank you so much for supporting Korra I'm sure it means a lot to her, it definitely helps me feel better to know she is with you. She's always told me what great parents you are." Tonraq chimed in. "Hi I'm Korra's dad, let me just apologize on Korra's behalf for her jerkiness." Asami laughed. "Well thank you but there's no need. I really love Korra and know what a good person she actually is." He smiled then leaned in and pointed to Korra's neck. "Nice work on her neck by the way." Korra grabbed the phone. "Dad! Now who's apologizing for who?!" Asami's face was bright red. "Just ignore him Sami, I'm going to my room now." She quickly made her way to her room and closed the door. "Your parents are so cute! I'm glad you've already talked to them. What did they say?" Korra sighed. "They said they would check my phone, that I couldn't go anywhere but work without them and that I'll have a curfew." Asami's eyes got wide. "Oh shit that's awesome! I love your parents!" Asami was in her office shuffling papers around. "Why are you still at work? It's late." Asami stopped moving around so she could pay better attention to the call. "Oh it's the Zaofu rail system. A few of us stayed late to work out some design issues." Korra raised an eyebrow. "Oh, who else stayed?" Asami paused to think. "Zhu Li, Suyin and Kenzo and Griffin from project management." Korra laughed. "Oh ok, so did you figure things out?" Asami narrowed her eyes. "For the most part....were you worried about who stayed?" Korra sat down on her bed and kicked her foot lightly against the wooden frame. "Well....not really. I just can't let go of what you told me about Kuvira." Asami smirked. "Well good, it's kind of satisfying to see you squirm a little. But of course you realize everyone isn't like you when it comes to relationships. The only reason you're jealous is because of the way your own mind works. Anyway I'm going to finish up here then go to my apartment, I can call you back if you want....or are you going to sleep?" Korra relaxed onto her bed laying back with one hand behind her head. "I should probably get some sleep, first day with Varrick tomorrow." Asami smiled. "Ok baby, I love you. Talk to you tomorrow."
