Okay, so maybe going to a university karaoke night event when your overly confident twin sister unknowingly couldn't sing wasn't the best idea, but as hard as I tried, I couldn't convince Emily not to go.
Calvin wanted to go to show off his piano skills, Mia wanted to sing, and poor Emily thought singing was one of her skills.
Now, I heard how musically talented my friends were, and knew they'd gain approval among the audience.
Emily, on the other hand, was not quite blessed with any musical talent, but she had so much spirit and confidence. I was determined to never let anyone break it, especially not by my friend or her dang boyfriend.
I made that especially clear through a group message chain on Instagram between just Calvin, Mia, and me.

Calvin seemed to brush me off, but I knew this boy was a snob. I made a mental note to keep an eye on him especially through Emily's turn. Mia, I knew she was brutally honest, but I could tell she'd keep her word.
Once we got to the university's little venue, I could see Emily tensing up.
"I've never sung in front of Calvin. He's a trained vocalist," she realized, turning to me anxiously.
Seeing her usual confidence slip a bit saddened me, but I was going to make sure she had nothing to worry about regarding him.
"And everyone's just having fun, so he knows that," I reassured her as we approached our friends.
"I reserved my spot early, so I think I'm first," Emily choked, going to check the list.
As soon as she was out of sight, I glared at Calvin, "Do... not."
He rolled his eyes in amusement.
"I'm serious!" I remarked as Mia came up, "Guys, please don't laugh at her. She's actually nervous."
"Oh, she's going up now," Calvin pointed out, then gave her a thumbs up as he exclaimed, "You've got this, Em!"
