I Can't Believe This

“Well I can say that you are definitely pregnant Ms Nicks” the doctor told her and she couldn’t control the smile that came to her face as she looked at Lindsey and saw his expression

“How did the hospital miss it? They did an ultrasound and everything” Lindsey asked confused

“Sometimes the baby hides behind something, especially when very small, so it can sometimes be overseen, but congratulations!”

“Thank you” they both told him

“Right that’s everything then, you will need to come back for very regular checkups and make sure you don’t do anything to strenuous, any questions?” Stevie and Lindsey shook their heads and left the room

On the way home they held hands the whole way and Stevie’s free hand never left her stomach, once home they sat on the sofa much the same way as they had in the car

“I can’t believe this Linds”

“Right? I never thought I’d be the one to knock you up” he laughed and winked at her and received a playful elbow in the ribs to which he played wounded

“No I’m joking baby, I’m so happy this is like our little miracle, all the things that have happened between us in the past is irrelevant now we have this to share, I love you so much!” tears came to her eyes at his sincerity

“I love you to!” she leaned up and kissed him before pulling away

“Can I come with you to pick the kids up from school today?”

“Of course you can, let’s go get the brood”

Stevie and Lindsey were waiting at the gates of the school when they saw the kids come out, Stella of course launching herself at Stevie as soon as she saw her

“Oh am I not good enough now?” Lindsey asked his daughter after hugging his other two children

“Sorry Linds, I’m just way cooler I’m afraid” Stevie said and gave him a wink

“Is this true Miss Stella?”

All Stella did was nod her head and cuddle closer to Stevie as she smiled, they got the kids all in the car and drove home all chatting about things they had done or learned at school that day

That evening when they were all sat at the table for dinner Stevie put down her knife and fork and spoke

“Lindsey can I tell them?” he looked at her with surprise and then answered

“Of course you can”

“Tell us what?” Will asked, curious

“Well umm, I found out this morning that...umm...” she was stumbling nervously

“She’s pregnant” Lindsey said abruptly

“Yes thank you Lindsey, I was getting there!” she glared at him

“Oh umm...sure you...umm where” he chuckled to himself and Stevie gave him a look that he knew meant she would get him back for that

“What? Stevie’s having a baby?” will asked

“She is yeah”

“But dad, I thought you and Stevie were together?” Will was confused

“We are son?” the confusion had passed to Lindsey now

“So it is your baby to?” Lindsey burst out laughing

“Well I should bloody well hope so” Stevie joined in the giggles now

“I’m so glad it’s my dad’s Stevie,  I was worried when he said that you were pregnant, I’m so happy it’s both of you though, It means you stay and we don’t have to lose you” Stevie was once again crying, damn these hormones she thought to herself

“Thank you honey, I’m glad I’m staying to” she smiled at him and he got up and hugged her

“Stevie?” he looked at her

“Yeah?”

“I love you”

“Oh I love you to, so very much” she brought Lindsey’s son once more into a hug, and he went and sat down again

Leelee was just sitting in her seat squealing with excitement and clapping her hands together, next to say something was Stella who came running to Stevie

“I thought your baby wasn’t strong enough?” Lindsey looked at Stevie and he realised she must have told her all about the baby when they had their little talk

“I thought so to sweetheart, but they must be one tough cookie!” Stella beamed at Stevie and started jumping up and down

“Daddy, daddy, mommy is having a baby, I’m going to get a little...” suddenly Stella realised what she said and stopped jumping and held her hand over her mouth and stared at Stevie, who just took Stella’s hand

“That’s right, mommy is having a baby” Stevie told her and Stella just burst into happy tears and was scooped up by her new mother, who at this realised how content she really was with her new family
