A few hours later, Stevie had fully woken up and was coherent enough to have a conversation with the doctors as to what had actually happened back at the hotel

“I fell” Stevie said blankly

“Ms Nicks...” the doctor started

“Stevie please” she asked him

“Okay Stevie, Mr Buckingham has already told me that you were with his wife at the time

Stevie looked at Lindsey and he smiled weakly at her and squeezed her hand that lay on the bed

“She had caught me and Lindsey together...and she told me to get out, so I went to another hotel but she must have followed me, well I opened the door when it knocked thinking it was maybe Lindsey...but it wasn’t” Stevie didn’t want to say anymore

“Can I have a small break please!” she asked the doctors

“Yeah of course, we will be back shortly to hear the rest okay? Were just doing this to help you Stevie” they got up and left the room

As soon as they left Stevie turned to look at Lindsey

“Lindsey I can’t tell them that Kristen made this happen, I can’t do that to her or your kids!” Lindsey was gobsmacked

“Stevie, she knocked you unconscious!” he was getting angry just thinking about what had happened

“I know Lindsey! But I can’t blame her she was just angry!” Lindsey couldn’t believe that Stevie was defending her; he needed to tell her the other part now before she was too quick at forgiving Kristen

“Did you know you were pregnant Stevie?” he blurted out

“Excuse me?” she just sat staring at him

“You heard me”

“I’m...pregnant?” she looked so happy and it killed him, he watched as she put a hand on her stomach

“Wait...the fall, is our baby okay?” she looked at Lindsey and he just shook his head as tears fell from his eyes

“The doctor said that due to your age the fall was too much of a shock to your system...we lost the baby Steph” she said quietly

“Oh god Lindsey no! Please...this was our last chance” Stevie couldn’t say another word and burst into a fit of uncontrollable tears

“Yeah and the woman that was ‘just angry’ caused it Stevie!” Stevie just looked at him wide eyed

“The woman your defending made us lose our baby!” he told her again with tears running down his face

“I’ll tell them then!” Stevie said all of a sudden

A short while later and Stevie had told them everything, from the minuet Kristen came into the room, to the second she found herself connecting with the coffee table

The doctors wrote down all they were told and decided they needed to leave the couple together, been as both of them were now very emotional after their devastating loss

“Linds?” Stevie asked after a while of silence

“Yeah?”

“Close your eyes and go to sleep for a little while, you look beyond tired, I need you to be alert and awake for me baby” she said weakly

“Okay I’ll try Steph! I love you so much, and I’m so sorry” he put his head on her lap and she played with his grey curls “this is all my fault, we lost our child because of me! I’m so sorry” he kept saying over and over again until exhaustion and the soothing feel of Stevie’s hand in his hair sent him into a deep sleep

Stevie continued to play with his hair as her own tears fell as she felt Lindsey’s head settle where their baby should have been, she leaned her head back on the pillows just as she noticed someone in the doorway, she was looking into the eyes of the woman who had destroyed the precious thing that she and Lindsey had created together
