Chapter 2: Angel.
Izzy.
"Ma'! The coffee is ready!" I snapped as she came rushing in with her robe on.
"Boy I was ordering something off the advertising channel." She said as I laughed at her. She went to pouring up a mug and I replied, "so what time is your run-thru as main news anchor for Oakland news?"
"In 2 hours. Saturdays are rarely busy so they have me coming in today. What time is the event at your shop?" She asked.
"At Noon. Then Cairo, Adaijah, and I are going to Midway Fair. I cant believe its still open." I told her as she laughed, "Cairo actually wants to go? Let me find out he didn't just wanna go with me the last time he was here but yes and thriving. Are you worried about running into Rome? He be there alotttt." She sipped her coffee as I flipped the pancakes in the skillet.
"No. Its been 17 years. He left that birthing room and we never saw each other again. He blocked me on all socials and all. But again its been 17 years. We are both things of the past to each other" I told her as she nodded and exhaled, "Welp I need to go up and do my makeup."
"And send the kids down" the kitchen side door opened and Cairo came in all nonchalant. Where the fuck he been at 8 AM?
"Um well Kid Mom." I told her as she walked off and I stared at Cairo as he sat down and I asked, "Where the hell where you?"
"Went for a run." Cairo said as I burst out laughing as I slid him the bowl of eggs to crack. This boy hates sweating so I am to believe he went running.
"What? Its New Cairo. I got 30 minutes in. Might dont run for another few days but I am trying something out. Let me live...." he said as he cracked the eggs and Adaijah came walking slowly into the kitchen.
"Morning." She said with no emotions as she sat down and Cairo asked, "Today we going to the fair. Its fun and I know how much you love roller coasters so cheer up."
"Are we going back to Miami like STAT? If not then its no need to cheer up." She replied as I exhaled, "Hey!" They both stared at me because I just felt they was about to bicker.
"I know the last few weeks alot of change been happening and its all my fault but as long as we are together then we are happy, right? Say it with meeee" I said smiling hard as they both rolled their eyes and we said our family mantra.
"Shine bright like a Brighten."
I slid the pancakes off onto the plates and quickly fried their eggs. I then sat down with them and exhaled, "So Imma be out for a few hours at my main shop. If you two want to come you can"
"Hard pass. I am going to catch an Uber to the airport to pick up my car. It was delivered today." Cairo said.
"And as for me I need to decide what I am wearing tonight to the fair while I binge watch Zoey101." Adaijah said as I laughed and exhaled, "Well then. Ill leave some money for"
"No need. Ill cook us up something." Cairo said smiling as I nodded. He never wants to spend money on things that can be avoided. The sell for the house went for over asking price and same for the shop. Thats Gregg looking out from the Heavens for us. I am happy I didn't fly to Garlandia and try to fight for Cairo title to be reinstated.
"FAMILYYYYYY!" A familiar voice screamed as I stood up and gasped as a pregnant Setta came waddling into the kitchen. We hugged each other tight and she laughed, "I cant believe you are hereeee! I told Dre last night he was dead wrong to get me pregnant and you were returning."
"Girl stop! This is a miracle." I told her as I rubbed her belly. Setta and Dre raised his siblings and Baby June is 18 now. And if anyone was wondering her mother in her eyes is Setta. She calls her and Dre, Mom&Dad. They had started to try for their own baby for yearss but she kept miscarrying. However, after 10 years of trying IVF became the only solution and now she 6 months pregnant.
