Chapter 10: two halves of the same heart. (Part 1)
Michaela rushed into the kitchen and grabbed the baked mac&cheese off the counter as she walked out towards the front and saw Mano car parked. She stared down at her black dress and she knew her dad was occupied. She rolled her eyes and walked out and went to the car. She slid the pan on the roof of it and popped the trunk. She went around and slid the pan inside. She slammed it shut and her phone started ringing. She went into her car and answered it on the bluetooth.
"Hello, Ika?" She asked.
"Where are you?" Ika whispered.
"On the way. I forgot the mac&cheese and had to turn around. Is Jay okay?" She asked as she crunk the car up.
"He is down in his basement with Chase and Polo doing shot for shot. He may have made it thru the funeral okay but after that liquor hits him its gonna hit him. I still cant believe she died." Ika said as Michaela licked her lips and exhaled, "I know right! We was just in her 6 grade Geography Class. Jay has been so distant with me this whole week and a half"
"His grandma died. He probably just wants his parents attention, you know?" Ika told her bestfriend as Michaela responded, "I figured that too. I dont know how he feel but I would like to be his shoulder to cry on..the one he can depend on."
"And its been like that since sandbox days. You two are destined for the long haul. The high school sweethearts that survived the long distance college thing, the rekindling, the arguments. Yourself and that boy are made for each other. You guys will endure the chaos, make it thru havoc, and enjoy the peace. Those are the three stages of forever!"
"Aww damn bitch! You should write a book whore! Thanks for the pick me up. He didnt even want to sit next to me at the funeral earlier...but you saying that just made it all better." Michaela explained as she hung up and drove to Jay's house.
About 15 minutes later Cairo walked downstairs after changing out of his funeral attire and taking another shower. He had his hair in a full bushy ponytail and he wore a jacket and some shorts. He saw Adaijah in the kitchen with their grandmother. He walked down the hall and stated, "Hey Im headed across the street."
"Great! Take this sweet potato pie to them and send my condolences." Their grandmother said as she quickly handed Cairo the pie and asked, "How was the service?"
"It was actually great. I was a bit weary about going due to the last funeral I attended was my Dads but it was okay"
"And can we do the movies tomorrow pleasee?!" Adaijah asked me as I nodded, "Sunday movie date is a go!"
Cairo walked out and saw about a few extra cars at Jay's house as expected and he then saw Michaela pulling up while rolling her passenger window down.
"BROTHERRRR! Can I park at your place? So I can have a way out of here when its time to go." She said as he nodded and she quickly pulled in. She got out and they hugged. She said, "Damn that pie smells bomb as fuck. I want a slice now."
"Well its for Jay's family so I guess that will be fine." Cairo told her as she grabbed the pie and stated, "Its mac&cheese in my trunk can you get it."
"Why me?!" He asked her.
"You are the brother and the only male out here." She told him as he argued, "Aren't you a feminist?"
"Yes but carrying heavy objects that already chipped some color off my nails is a no-go!" She said smiling as Cairo laughed and leaned in. He grabbed the pan and they started to cross the street. He asked, "So is everything okay with You and Jay? I saw you weren't on the front row with him." He was concerned due to the fact he knew Jay had been sleeping over at his place that last 8 days. Nothing sexual has happened but intimacy is at an all time high.
