Promises

Chapter 4

-IVORY

I went home today smiling like crazy, but seeing Gary at home I had to leave. How did my mom not hear me cry for help last night? I left the house pretty late at night so my mom wouldn't hear me. I was a little scared going outside on my own in the dark, but I really needed some time to myself, with Gary as far away from me as possible.

"Hey Jade, call me when you can I need to talk to you about something, its urgent," She wasn't answering my calls, she's usually still awake at this time.

I get a call and it makes me jump. It was Jade.

"Hey girly what's up?" She said cheerfully. I couldn't tell her this over the phone.

"Can you come out? I'll walk towards ur house I'll see you there," I end the call before she could say anything. I was coming towards her house and I saw a figure running towards me, as they come closer, I saw it was Jade. She came over and hugged me.

"What is wrong with you, why are you out at this time?" she said, out of breath. I hugged her tighter.

"Jade, I don't know how to tell you this, and please promise me you won't think of me differently after this," I tell her with tears rolling one after the other down my cheeks.

She pulls me away from her and looks me in the eyes. As she wiped the tears from my eyes and tried to calm me down, she gave me a little smile. Jades smile could lighten anyone's mood, but not right now, nothing can.

"Of course, I won't think of you differently, you're my best friend, I can't live without you," she reassured.

"Ok, so I got raped by my mom's new boyfriend, but my mom doesn't know yet," I tell Jade, my voice trembled as I struggled to get out my words.

We sat and talked for hours under the moonlight. At some moments it went silent as we stared at the night sky, as the stars twinkled it reminded me of my interaction with Remi today. OH MY GOD REMI.

"Jade?" She looked at me worried.

"Today in school when I went to the principal's office, me and Remi held hands and he invited me to his party," I told her, smiling now.

She screamed at the top of her lungs

"Oh my god, and you're only telling me this now because...?" She said eagerly.

"I completely forgot, with what's happening at home," I explain to her.

We went on for hours more about Remi, I explained to her what happened, every little detail. Jade explained to me to be careful, but I could tell she was excited. Her main concern was getting me ready for his party on Friday.

"WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO WEAR?" She realized.

We continued fantasizing about my possible future with Remi while we headed to her house. She let me stay over at hers, knowing I really wouldn't want to go home.

What am I doing with my life? Remi is happy with Ivory and I'm here fantasizing over him myself. Ivory has to be one of the luckiest girls I know. Ive never seem Remi so happy to have held hands with someone. Remi can get any girl he wants. Why does Ivory mean so much to him?

I dug my head into my pillow and screamed. I sat back up and fought the urge to cut my leg.

"Fuck it, no one cares anyways, not even Remi," I said to myself.

I pulled a small but sharp knife out from under my bed. Its ok, I can do this, it won't hurt too much.

I woke up in the morning freezing, this morning definitely wasn't as nice as yesterdays to say the least.

I looked around and saw people around my age walking to school already. I stood up and my legs felt numb, but then I saw her in the distance.

"IVORY," I shout at her.

She looks back at me. Her nose and cheeks are pink from the cold, she looks so cute today. She looks so cute every day. I speed up to catch up to her.

"Are you ok? You look frozen all over, here have my coat, I'm warm anyways," She takes off her coat and puts it over me. I should be giving her my coat.

"Thank you, Ivory, but you don't have to do this,"

She pulled me in for a hug, right in front of everyone. I felt my face get warm as I blushed harder than ever. I saw Krysti walking by behind us, I was about to go but thought she might want to be left alone.

I hugged Ivory tighter until I could feel her heartbeat against me. Time seemed to stop when I was with her. Is this what love feels like?
