In the last chapter, Melissa came home and found them arguing in Mac's room. Alexei had found out that Mac didn't have money and he had confronted her. This was after they had sneaked around, to be with each other.

In response to Melissa's question, Alexei mumbled that it was just a disagreement about something that was personal to Mac and AJ. Melissa tried to argue but he hugged and briefly kissed her which, stopped her questions. He didn't realize what he did to the girl standing behind him. Maybe he did and he didn't care enough about her. Maybe he wanted to hurt her. Maybe he was confused but there were no excuses for what he did. In front of her. The length of the kiss didn't matter. Mac was devastated. After all they shared, he still wanted Melissa. Although she had her plans, she still had hope. Not any more. She made herself look at them. She needed a reminder of why she had to leave. As if realizing what he had done, he turned to her and didn't like how blank her eyes were. He tried to apologize with his eyes but she was no longer looking at him. In an expressionless voice, she said,"Alexei, thanks for your advice. I need to get ready for dinner and I'm sure the two of you want to catch up." Having said what she wanted to say, she walked into her bathroom.

Having no choice, even though he wanted to go after her, he went with Melissa who was talking non stop about her shopping, what she and her mother did and so on. He knew that he needed to get answers and because of his insensitive behavior, Mac was not about to talk to him anytime soon. Panicking at the thought that Mac would leave him, he tried to stop Melissa from talking but it wasn't going to happen. Melissa was reassured by his kiss and she wanted his attention now. She slid her arms around him, gave him, what she thought was a sexy look and lifted one eyebrow as soon they entered her room. "I missed you Alexei. My room or yours tonight?" A few days ago, Alexei would have answered her that the room didn't matter, that it was the company that counted. Even though he knew that he loved Melissa and was going to marry her, he couldn't understand this fear that he was going to lose Mac all over again. His mind was all over the place. Fear of loss, had its grip on him. They had agreed to get closure, so why was he not excited about Melissa coming back?

Why was he thinking about another woman when he had this one in his arms? Looking at her pretty face, he again counted his blessings, that she had come into his life. The truth is that she helped him to get over his pain, and he had cheated on her, with Mac. He had cheated on Mac with her. (Yeah, what a pig!) He had just kissed Melissa and it had been cheating but what he was doing now, was worse. They had gone through a lot together and Melissa had been there and helped him to get through a painful time, in his life. He couldn't give in to his feelings for Mac and abandon Melissa, especially now, so close to the wedding.

He really, needed to talk to Mac. They had to end it and get their closure. He had been fooling himself these past days, by imagining a life with Mac. Their chance was over. He had to end it for good this time. They could stay friends though, because the truth was that he had missed their friendship very much. He would also find out about the money and try to help her out. Then the little devil sitting on his shoulder, decided to plant ideas in his head. His thoughts drifted to what ifs, and what he came up with was bad. He started wondering if Mac was trying to seduce him for money. Since she had spent all hers, she was now looking for a meal ticket. His thoughts got darker as he felt betrayed, thinking that she never wanted him. She was faking it. (AN: Someone please put me out of my misery. I can't stand this idiot right now. I so badly want to beat him.) Telling Melissa that he would see her in a bit, he left for his room to freshen up, before dinner.

Mac stood in the shower and her tears mingled with the water as they poured down her face. She made a promise that she would never cry again. Alexei made his choice, when he kissed Melissa, in front of her, after all, they had shared. She wanted to kick herself for falling again, for believing again. She prayed that she would get what she wanted from him, that she had already received it. After seeing him with Melissa, it was that day, all over again. The day, she came home and he kissed Melissa in front of her. She wouldn't allow herself to go through that again. Not this time. This time, she would be strong. If she got what she wanted, she needed to be strong. AJ also depended on her, so she needed to be stronger. The wedding was next week, so she had to buckle up and plan. She would arrange and do what she was hired for, then she could leave, and never look back. She also had some business with a certain someone. Her eyes hardened at that thought. It was time! Finishing in the shower, she dressed and went down for dinner.
