The drive had been quiet.
Finn held Millie's hand as usual when they walked up to their apartment despite the tiny feeling that sat in the pit of his stomach. They reached the door and he unlocked it quietly before they opened it up to two excited dogs. Millie immediately dropped to the floor to smother them in love like she usually did. Finn hung his keys up as he watched, a small smile tugging at his lips.
"Shower?" He asked after a few seconds passed by.
Millie looked up at him and nodded in response, "Meet you there?"
He nodded back and walked away, the bathroom door being closed behind him. Millie stood up then and let out a breath that she didn't even realize she had been holding. Finn didn't even know and yet she felt like he secretly did. Maybe she should tell him now, while they showered. It would make sense, the shower was their safe place and he'd be a lot calmer to start with.
She passed the bathroom quietly to drop her bag and work clothes into the bedroom. She was on her way out as she stopped at the sight of herself in the mirror. She turned her head slowly and her eyes caught her own in the reflection. Her mouth turned into a thin line as she stared down her bare body.
She stared for a while, as if her body would change right in front of her eyes. She knew she wasn't going to shape-shift into a full forty week pregnant woman but she stood there like she would. She turned to the side and her eyes climbed their way down to her stomach. Nothing was different than usual but she still felt like something was. How many weeks was she? How far along was she and how could she not have noticed anything sooner?
She had to practically rip her eyes away from the glass so that she wouldn't stare all night long and keep Finn wondering where she was. Her feet hit the carpet softly as she walked down the hallway and then opened the bathroom door. She peeked in and let out a small breath of relief as she saw that Finn was already in the shower.
His low humming soothed her nerves as she took a deep breath of the thick air. She always liked the way that they both showered in the hottest water that they could handle. The steam made the room feel almost like they were under a blanket in the middle of the summer. She knew that sounded unpleasant to most but it made her feel at home, in the weirdest way possible.
She released her hair from the bun that it was already falling out of before opening up the curtain slowly. Finn stepped aside without even looking up so that she could stand in the usual spot that she did. A chill ran through her body as the water touched her skin and her mind immediately drifted into panic mode.
Could she even shower in water this hot? She couldn't recall if she had read somewhere that pregnant women shouldn't be bathing in burning hot water, wouldn't that like, boil the baby? Could the baby even be considered a baby at this point?
"What's on your mind?" Finn interrupted her thoughts as he saw the look on her face.
Her eyes met his and she shook her head, "Could we turn the water down?"
"Colder?" He asked with furrowed eyebrows.
She bit her bottom lip and nodded, "I just...I feel claustrophobic."
"Did you want to get out?" Finn asked next. She wasn't usually like this when they showered; she loved to feel her skin tingle and he never heard the end of it.
She shook her head no, "Can we just make it a bit cooler?"
"Okay." He reached around her and turned the water down a little before looking to her face for approval, "Good?"
She nodded and then tilted her head back so she could wet her hair properly, "Thank you."
The shower was going oddly silent. Finn watched Millie as she turned around towards the stream of water and closed her eyes to rinse out the shampoo in her hair. He didn't like how they were so quiet right now. It wasn't like them and he despised that. Change wasn't his favorite thing and he'd be damned if he let it happen to one of his favorite things.
