Moving On Quickly

The water calmed Millie down immensely.

She faced away from Finn, her back exposed as she pulled her hair over her shoulder to let the water run down it. Finn's hands crept up and his fingertips grazed over her shoulders gently before he rested them onto her skin. She felt warm due to the water and Finn pressed his thumbs into her back, the pressure of them moving in circular motions making Millie sigh in relief.

"I'm sorry about earlier."

Finn leaned forward as he spoke. His mouth was merely inches away from Millie's ear and she could feel small droplets of water falling from his chin as he muttered out his apology.

"I took out my frustrations on you and I shouldn't have. If you're tired then you're tired, there's no reason for me to be angry over it."

Millie leaned back so that her head was slightly on his shoulder, "Can you tell me something? With one-hundred percent honesty?"

Finn nodded, "Always. I can't lie to you."

"Are you still upset over me hanging out with Louis?"

Finn tensed up at his name. His hands stopped where they had still been working on Millie's shoulders and she turned to look at him.

"You are," she said as more of a statement rather than a question.

Finn sighed. It was so much more than just being upset but he didn't feel like he could tell her everything he had seen and heard yet. He wasn't ready for the possible truth and what it could mean. If it was all true? He wasn't ready for something so big, for something to drive a wedge between him and the one he loved most. He wasn't ready for that at all.

"I'm sorry," he groaned out in what was almost shame as he placed his forehead on her shoulder.

"My love..." Millie trailed off. Her hands reached for his face and she cupped his cheeks softly, his head being directed so that he could look at her eye to eye.

"I know that saying nothing is happening between us isn't enough, but I'll say it again. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, happening between us. I only have eyes for you and I've only ever had eyes for you. I mean that and I need you to trust me."

Finn couldn't explain the feeling that was building up in his chest. He could cry at the way it clawed up his throat and stung behind his eyes. He knew he had to trust her and he wanted to so badly. Yet something was stopping him. Maybe the way that she and Louis had talked in that parking lot, as if they only needed each other. Finn wasn't involved in that, and it was tearing him apart. He couldn't imagine not being a part of Millie's important moments.

"Why..."

The word was so faint. It was so faint that Millie couldn't tell if she had made it up or if Finn had really said it. His eyes moved away from hers and he took a breath in as he tried to sort his thoughts.

Why won't she just tell me?

He didn't understand why now would be the time that Millie wasn't telling him everything and anything. She told him all of the minuscule details of her days and yet she was hiding something so big like this? It didn't make any sense.

"I trust you."

He looked her in the eyes again, every bit of doubt falling away as he decided to blindly trust the woman in front of him. He did trust her and maybe he had to remind himself of that. There had to be a reason and he knew it. He had always had patience before and now he was willing to put his patience to the test. In reality, how long could Millie really hide a pregnancy? She'd have to come clean sooner rather than later; and much as he didn't want to, he was willing to wait for that.
