"What if they don't recognize us?"
Finn gave Millie a look, "Please, these dogs live for us."
Millie giggled and swung their hands between them, "I'm just saying, we've changed in the past three days, I feel like we're whole new people."
Before Finn could reply the door to the house was being swung open.
"Millie!" Finn's mother Mary spoke with enthusiasm as she practically yanked Millie into a bone crushing hug.
Millie hugged back with just as much enthusiasm, Finn watching fondly behind the two.
He had always admired the way that his mother got along with Millie. They had gotten along from the start and he loved that.
"I need to tell you something."
Finn's mother looked up from the book she was reading as Finn walked into the room. She set it down in her lap and nodded for him to continue, a look of worry immediately falling over her face as she saw his own.
"I..." he trailed off without knowing where to start.
Mary's eyebrows furrowed, "Breathe a little."
He smiled slightly at her attempt to lighten the atmosphere a little. He was clearly worried or stressed or something of the sort and she really didn't like to see him like this.
"I met a girl."
He blurted out the sentence so quickly that Mary wasn't even sure that she had heard it correctly. He immediately searched her face for any sort of reaction, his nerves eating him up when he realized that this wasn't even the part that he should be nervous about.
"That's great, who is she?" His mother gave a comforting smile.
Finn shuffled on his feet a little. He was trying to rack his thoughts together but it was a struggle to make anything clear at the moment. He swallowed roughly before speaking again, the words spilling like vomit in such a hurry. It was better to just say it straight out rather than beat around the bush.
"I've decided that I'm not moving to New York."
Mary opened her mouth to speak but Finn shook his head, his words spilling again out of his mouth in hopes of making things even a tiny bit better.
"I'm staying here, in California."
"But you-" Mary started but Finn couldn't help the words running past his lips.
"Millie and I love each other, and we want to move in together. We-we're moving in together."
Mary was silent now as she waited to see if he had anymore to say. When he bit his lip in anticipation she knew he was done.
"So you want to move in with this new girl you met?"
"Millie," Finn said.
Mary nodded, "Millie. You want to move in with Millie."
"Yes." Finn said the word matter-of-factly.
Mary nodded, "and what about your internship?"
"Well...I think there will be other opportunities in the future."
Finn knew that everything he was saying sounded outrageous because of the plans that he had set up so far for his life. He would take an internship at a publishing office and learn every thing that he needed to before sneaking his way into writing somehow. He already had the internship down, all the rest was just supposed to follow at this point.
