Millie's work day was done soon.
Her eyes kept scanning the street in front of the small coffee shop in case Finn showed up early. He was usually early and she felt nervous to see him for the first time in a long time. She rushed around cleaning up in an attempt to keep herself busy.
"You guys are good to go."
Millie's head snapped up from where she was sweeping the already clean floor and her eyes met with her manager who was stocking up some cups.
"I could do that for you," Millie blurted out.
Louis looked to her with furrowed eyebrows and Millie brushed the look off.
"It's fine, you guys can go early, we're pretty slow."
Millie opened her mouth again but Louis nudged her.
"What are you doing?" He mouthed to which she shook her head.
He gestured for her to follow towards the back where their employee break room was. As soon as they reached the back Louis was pulling off his hat and untying his apron.
"You've been weird all day."
Millie shrugged and started follow suit by taking off her apron.
"Are you okay? Does it have to do with Finn?" Louis asked next. The only time she was ever distracted was when it had to do with Finn or their dogs.
Millie took her hat off and pulled the bun out of her hair, "Why would it have to do with Finn?"
Louis gave her a knowing look now, "You really thought I wasn't going to notice you checking the front every five minutes for the past hour?"
Millie opened her mouth to blurt out some excuse but couldn't quite come up with anything. She only sighed in return then and Louis raised his eyebrows.
"So it does have to do with him?"
Millie shrugged, "I mean...kind of? I don't know."
She shook her head as Louis walked out of the room and then came back in quickly.
"Tell him that I'm walking you home," he pointed to her phone, "We can talk about it then."
"You don't have to, really it's-" Millie started to reject his offer but he wasn't having it.
"Millie, you're obviously stressed about this. Let me help," he insisted.
She groaned a little but nodded her head before messaging Finn. The two grabbed their bags then before making their way out of the shop and starting towards Finn and Millie's apartment.
"So, care to explain?"
Millie nodded, "But you have to promise not to get weird about it. And you can't tell anyone!"
Louis put his hands up, "Who am I going to tell? I have like three friends counting you."
Millie put her hand up with her pinky extended to him, "Promise me."
Louis rolled his eyes before linking his pinky with hers and nodding, "I promise."
"Well, you know how I was super tired on Monday and then yesterday Finn told you that I was sick?" Millie started to explain herself and her chest grew heavy with anxiousness as she did.
Louis nodded.
"Well I wasn't really sick yesterday, Finn just felt bad about how tired I was," Millie said.
Louis nodded again, "That's understandable. You looked horrible, no offense."
"None taken. Anyway, I woke up yesterday morning feeling super hot," she started to explain some more.
