Miley

"Miley pleeeeeeeaaaaassseeeeeezze" Kane started again reminding me of the topic we had earlier.
The grand opening of the new restaurant his sister just opened.
I just rolled my eyes and walked into the street.

"Good afternoon." I smiled warmly to the security guards who returned it better to me.

"Good afternoon Miss Hills. How have you been?" One of the female guards - I didn't know her name - asked me. It still shook me how they knew the names of everyone on the street and not everyone knew their names.

"Very good, Miss." I replied realising that Kane didn't acknowledge their presence. I turned to look at him just to scold him but he gave me that surprised look that made me more or less confused.

"What? Why are you looking at me like that?" I even tried to recall what I did that made him look at me like that.

"You... You just ignored me!" He mused, pointing at himself. I just rolled my eyes and snort.

"You're not a celebrity, okay. I might just end up celebrating your downfall." I stuck out my tongue and increased my pace, enlargening the gap between us.

"Okay, Miley." He said in that disgustingly annoying girly voice but I didn't respond. I was being a bad friend by just liking the way my bestfriend's crush chase me for a stupid reason. But it will end soon.

"Miley, please just follow me. I swear if you don't like anything happening on the seventh next month, we'll leave. I don't want to be lonely." He whispered the last sentence. I didn't respond even though I was surprised.
He sighed, a sign that he was giving up.

Can Kane be this weak?

"If Nellyda was here, she would have said yes." I stopped and turned to look at him.

Nellyda.

Welll...

"Nellyda? How did you suddenly remember her? You guys weren't even close." I let him walk to my side and we started walking together.

"Tha... That is none of your business." He widened his eyes and pursed his lips. I just chuckled and rested an elbow on his shoulder.

"For the sake of my friend, I'll join you." I grinned up at him. He slowly turned his head to where I was next to him.

"Really?" He was about to crack a smile. I just deadpanned and snickered.

"No, really." I looked at him with that shut-up look. I took out my phone from the back pocket of my shorts, suddenly wanting to know what the time was.

11:15am...

I thought it was 3:00pm...

"I thought it was three." I said looking back up at Kane. He chuckled.

"Well your assumption is visibly incorrect." He smiled down at me then raised his head up again. He clearly hasn't bothered to check the time since he woke up.

I looked up at his face to see if he was just kidding but his expression changed. Before I knew it, he dragged me behind a car that was unusually parked at a side if the street. He then looked at me with terrified eyes.

"I hope I didn't hurt you." He said more like asking a question. I was scared and angry that I was just gonna blow.

"Why did?!.." I tried shouting at him before he held my mouth, muffling my voice. Then he pointed at the side mirror of the car we were hiding behind with his other hand. I reluctantly turned my head to see what he was pointing at. What he showed me made me shocked to the marrow with fear.

One of the security guards were out cold with blood oozing from his forehead. Beside his body was a guy dressed in a designer suit that fit him perfectly. He looked down at the dead guard with balled fists.

The other guards started to run for their lives apart from the female guard who greeted me earlier. She was just shivering in her spot with tightly sealed eyes probably praying. It seemed like her prayer was in vain because a little while longer, her head was smashed into the wall by the guy on the suit. I gasped but thankfully, Kane's palm was still on my mouth so it was dampened. Her body slid to the ground leaving a large red hollow in the wall. The guy silently walked into house one.

When he was completely out of sight, we started running. We ran...

And ran...

And ran...

And ran...

We didn't stop to even catch our breaths until we got to Kane's house first. We knocked...

No answer.

We knocked several times but no answer. I mentally sighed and we started running again. We got to my house and we knocked...

No answer...

I banged the door in frustration.
"WHERE the hell did they go?" I hissed and we ran to the last trustworthy house we both knew. The one belonging to Nellyda's Grandma.

As we ran, I prayed for her to be around to open the door because if not... we were dead.

When we knocked, the door was instantly opened and we came face to face with blue eyes. We pushed past her and landed on the floor panting.

"Why are you guys sweating like this? What chased you both all the way here? Your families are even upstairs." Grandma shut the door quickly and turned to look at us with more of concern than fear.

Back to reality...

"We were what you'd call short of words. Grandma wouldn't have been able to control herself if she saw the lot we saw that day." I finished and inhaled deeply. I looked around, realizing that the whole room was looking and listening to me.

Well the trauma was bad for all of us. I can't blame them for being so silent. Not being able to eat, seeing tens of people die everyday, seeing the disgusting carnage on the streets. It was pretty bad.

"Nothing lasts forever though." I heard Nellyda say. Like she was reading my mind.

When Nellyda is too optimistic, things are always seemingly different. To the extent that for a time, I forgot that I was trapped in a house by a demon.
