Nel sat on the couch with crossed legs, staring at the large screen TV in the room just half the size of the parlour downstairs. She was contemplating switching on the TV cuz Xavier wasn't there for her to ask. He went out saying he would get her belongings from her grandmother's house. She asked if she could go with him but he said no with a menacing tone and left, avoiding more of her likely to be asked questions. So now she's stuck with the whole house. Alone.
She groaned and stood to leave the place. She went down to the parlour and entered the kitchen.
"Wow." She gasped. It was beautiful. Soo beautiful. And stuffed to the hilt with food.
She grinned and stepped out the kitchen. She looked to her right and spotted a
door. She remembered Xavier always went in there everyday and never came out till evening. She wondered what was in there that took most of his time. She bit her lower lip, observing it's unusual carvings before walking away quietly to look around other places in the house. She went to Xavier's room, Benji's room and all of the other rooms and empty spaces in the house and Xavi wasn't back yet. She then walked back downstairs and stood some distance from the door.
Would he want me in there?
She tilted her head to think for a while then she shut her eyes and shook her head before grabbing he handle downward.
She was surprised when it creaked. No door she opened so far had. She pursed her lips and pushed it further open.
What?
The room was an office. A really spacious one. But it was old fashioned. Mahogany table and chair carved beautifully at the middle near the wall opposite her position, bright grey and polished terrazzo flooring, large huge polished shelves where books, files and old papers were arranged neatly, windows...
No windows?
She woved into the room and the door creaked close. She turned back and looked at it for a while.
Maybe it's just the wind...
From outside...
She continued to tell herself to calm down and walked closer to the table. When she got to the center of the room, the light above her started to flicker. She stopped. Something felt wrong. Eerily wrong.
She looked up at it and it was stable again. She exhaled deeply and walked to the table. Then she picked a paper at the edge of it, an old drab price of paper and read the heading.Death contract.
She went pale. Was Xavi meant to die? Why does he have a death contract in his possession?
Before she could read the rest of the paper, papers flew out of their shelves, drawers, stackings, swarming around her in a large globe, hitting and shuffling against each other with shrill noises. It was chaotic. The globe started to close in on her sitting on the floor to buy more time to think.
What the fuck?
I can't think of anything.
She tried touching the paper barrier but it repeled her and it stung. What was it meant to do? Squeeze her to death?
"Nellyda!" The male voice she heard had panic laced in it and just as she heard it the papers stopped shuffling and the scent of fresh lilies was strong. Really strong. She opened her eyes. The room was as neat as she saw it when she came in initially, the papers back where they were, the one she was holding was back on the table.
"What are you doing here?" The voice said and a hand grabbed her off the floor. She felt dizzy.
"Look at me. You need to stop blacking out like this." Xavi sighed and put a hand in the crook of her knees and picked her up and out of the room.
He lay her on the couch and rest her head on his laps.
"How are you feeling? I got your things from Yolanda's house." Xavier looked over her soma and smoothered her cheek with the pad if his thumb.
"Death contract. Whose death contract was it?" Nel held the hand on her face and looked up at him with weary eyes.
Xavier stopped breathing and went pale. How?
How did she find it?
"It was right on the table." She answered and he gulped. This was not the best time for her to be listening to him think. He had to cook up something quick.
"Death contract. A demon took the life of another so I uhh... made him sign a death contract. If he kills another he'll be sentenced to death according to how the others want him to die." Xavi said as fast as he could, the words flowing out by themselves before he quietly sighed.
"Why are you 'sentencing' to death?" She tilted her head with more energy in her body.
If demons could heal quick
This pain I'm feeling must kill a person.
"I'm demon king." He said and looked away. Nel hummed and nodded once and shuffled around to get comfortable. He was so warm. And she loved the scent of fresh lilies on him.
"I got your things from your grandmother." He looked down at her face to see her reaction. She looked up at him for a moment and looked away. She didn't have an answer for him. He didn't let her see her after all.
"Thank you." She said quietly. He let a small smile form on his lips.
"Nel, I want us to go somewhere tomorrow." He involuntarily brought his hand to her face to move the hair from her forehead. Nel pursed her lips and kept from widening her eyes.
I am not going to react.
"Where? When? In the evening?" She looked up at his face. He nodded with a smile and heat crept up to her cheeks.
He doesn't act like a king at all.
"Mhmn." He tilted his head with an even bigger smile. She was blushing for him.
"Where are we going?"
"It's a surprise." He patted her head with a chuckle. She was flustered but wasn't too flustered. That, he was happy about.
"You're going to disappear into that office till then, right?" She asked with a kind of expression Xavi couldn't read.
"Does that annoy you?" He asked, his face fell.
"Not annoy. I just feel... alone not having anyone to talk to." She said with her face flushed for the nth time and bowed her head. Xavier just laughed.
"Do you want me to stay with you?" He unconsciously picked strands of her hair and twirled it between his fingers. She was blushing. She couldn't stop. He was being really...
Soft...
She nodded for a response. He was happy she really wanted him to stay. His smile grew wider.
"Okay then. Should I carry you? Or you can move now." Xavi gave a sheepish smile after the question he just asked.
"No, I can walk... Thank you." She raised her head from his laps reluctantly. She wasn't going to give a wrong notion. They were friends now, right?
Friends.
Xavi didn't intend to, he really wanted to respect her privacy. But did she say 'friends'? It was sad enough that he went from aquatintance to falling in love with her but he was happy she wanted to be friends. The one word information took half of his anger and irritation issues. Since she probably had feelings for Kane, for now...
Friends...
