~30~ A sudden fever

I woke up in the middle of the night to hear Zane screaming his little lungs off. I ran towards the little room that was connected to mine, pushing open the door I saw Zane frantically throwing his legs around trying to get my attention.

"What's wrong tesoro? Mama is here" I picked him up slowly trying to hush his cries. My eyes clouded with worry as I felt his steaming body. He was burning up.

I looked around frantically for the light switch trying to see Zane's face more clearly. His face was red from the constant crying and fever. I put him back down and grabbed a towel to soak in cold water, I needed to cool him down somehow and if that didn't work I'd have to hurry down to the packs medical wing.

I fumbled around looking for a towel.

I gently placed the small towel on his forehead. He still continued to cry and within a few minutes of trying to cool him down I realised that this just wasn't going to work.

Wrapping him up and jolted for the door. I ran towards the medical wing with him in my embrace still screaming and kicking in pain.

Getting closer to the double doors I felt tears form in my eyes,

Was he going to be ok?

I ran to the nearest doctor in need of assistance.

"Please help I don't know what's wrong he just started to burn up I don't know what's wrong please help" I cried,

"Beta Jessica oh my I'll get you a room straight away, I'll alert the Alpha and Luna too" she put her clipboard down heading towards a nurse explaining to her the situation.

The nurse took me towards a free room and did a few routine tests.

"I must say it's quite unusual for werewolf babies to get fevers they are usually known for their impeccable immune syste-" she stopped herself realising that her words made me worry even more.

I sat beside little Zane who's screams had been put to a pause. The constant crying and kicking tired him out and he was now fast asleep.

The doctors came in alongside Andreo and crying Laura.

"Oh my god Jess we came as soon as we heard" Laura blew her nose,

"Yeah since the news she just can't stop crying, Zane's going to be fine but here is aunty is crying a whole river for him" he chuckled,

"Leave me alone you donkey" she wiped away the stray tears that trickled down her cheek.

The doctor cleared her throat calling for my attention.

"Beta Jessica we ran some tests on little Zane but since the father of your child isn't from this pack we couldn't really understand what was wrong I'm afraid the only people that could help would be Zane's fathers pack, since there's a possibility that every child born in that pack has these fevers for the first few months of it's birth"

A blanket of silence fell over the room, no one dared to speak. My mind full of thoughts I look up at worried Andreo and Laura. I knew the day that I would have to go see his pack would come but I didn't realise it would be this soon.

The thought of even having to go anywhere related to that man sent shivers down my spine. I didn't want to do this but it isn't about what I want to do anymore... I look at Zane's small face. I just got to hold him I can't lose him already. I let the Moon Goddess take so many people away from me but this time I can't... I can't let her take away my only source of happiness.

I place my index finger in between his palm.

"I guess we need to book a flight back to England" I said still looking down at Zane's hand.

"I'll get in contact with Leon he has control over.... That man's pack" Andreo patted around his trousers looking for his phone,

"You can say his name you know..." I whispered,

"I know... but just the sound of his name makes me disgusted" he answers hearing me through werewolf ability.

A sudden thought appeared in my mind.

"I wouldn't have to check my old pack right? Cause I'm not originally from this pack and if we find nothing in Zane's fathers pack then the problem would have to be in...." My eyes fogged in fear with the possibility,

"I'm afraid to say that it is possible" the doctor replied in a cold monotone voice.

I looked up at Andreo and Laura in fear who were both looking at each other as if in a state of confusion. They didn't know what to do...

Zane started moving around in his sleep as if sensing the tension in the room. His small cry broke the silence waking me up from my trance.

I slowly picked him up rubbing circles on his back hoping my touch would give him some comfort. His small head nuzzled into my neck, and just like that he calmed down.

"I'll book the earliest ticket" Laura whispered placing her hand on my shoulder. She knew I was scared, she knew everything. I had told her everything about that was said and done to me at my old pack.

In that very moment I wanted to break down into tears but I couldn't I needed to stay strong for my little pickle.

I received a call from Leon after a few hours. I'm afraid to say his voice still sent shivers down my spine.

"I'll get the place ready for you, we will get through this Jess... together"

I whispered an "okay" with a shaky voice fearing the worst.

We talked some more about everything going on until we had to say goodnight and end the call, his voice comforted me.

"Right I'll have to go, by the way we have a neighboring pack staying with us so don't be surprised when you see a lot more people. There's the grand gala that's about to take place soon so packs from all over England are gathering"

The thought of having to see people didn't amuse me at that very moment of time but it's his pack I can't change things so suddenly.

I didn't end up sleeping that night. I simply sat in the arm chair next to Zane's bed thinking about what the next few days would have in store for me.
