Checking her phone the next morning, her heart sunk when she didn't see a single message from Caiden. It was 7 in the morning, so he would've been up for a while already.
She tiredly rubbed her eyes and dropped her phone on the bed. She hadn't slept well at all. She kept replaying the events in her head and didn't fall asleep unit 4 am. Not only that but she was also used to sleeping next to Caiden. She felt uncomfortable sleeping without him.
She walked downstairs and grabbed her keys from the table. "Thank you for letting me stay, mom," she said to her mother who just walked into the kitchen.
"No problem, Blake. You're always welcome here. I hope you and Caiden can fix this."
"Me too," she sighed, though she wasn't certain they could fix it.
Blake left her mom's house and began the anxiety wrenching drive to Caiden's house. She didn't have any clothes left at her mom's house, so she needed to go to Caiden's to get dressed for work. Luckily he would be at work already so she wouldn't have to see him.
As she drove down the road, she saw a car up ahead. It crossed over the yellow line twice from what she could see, so Blake slowed down and started to hug the white line on the road.
"What the hell!" She screamed when she saw the car completely cross onto her side of the road. Before Blake had any time to react, the car slammed into the front left side of her vehicle.
At the same time, she felt the airbag deploy. It felt kind of like a mini-explosion happening right in front of her. A little disoriented, she pulled herself out of the car. Luckily her car didn't roll or flip over.
When she got out of the car, she saw the other vehicle had rolled down into the grass and it only stopped because it hit a tree.
Blake's car was pretty bad off. The entire front of her car was crumpled. All the glass was shattered. It looked like a mess. Her eyes started to water as she realized that one of the only things she had left of her father was destroyed. That car was his before he died. She knew the car would eventually outlive its days, but it shouldn't have happened so soon.
A few tears streamed down her eyes as she looked at the damage, feeling like she'd lost even more of her father in that very moment. After a few minutes, she took a deep breath and wiped her eyes. She knew her dad would want her to be strong in that moment.
She walked down over into the grassy area where the other car was. She saw a woman in the front seat of the car. Blake didn't know if she was alive or not because she wasn't moving.
"Are you alright?" Blake asked. No response. She reached into the shattered window and pulled the girl's shoulder back. She was shocked at who she saw.
"Lila?"
Blake breathed a sigh of relief when she saw her sister breathing. She looked extremely disoriented and not at all present.
"Lila," Blake said again as she opened the door. She looked over her sister for injuries but didn't see any. Carefully, she pulled her out of the car and laid her in the grass. The only injuries to be seen on Lila were the needle marks in her arms. She was high.
Blake scoffed and walked back toward her car. Hopefully, her phone wasn't damaged so she could call the police. She growled in frustration when she saw her phone had been smashed in the wreck. She looked through Lila's car and didn't see a phone either.
She grew even angrier when she realized that Lila was the reason that one of the last remaining things that connected her to her father was destroyed. Her and Lila didn't have a good relationship, but it was completely over at that moment.
