"How was the rest of your weekend, sweetheart?" Caiden asked. Blake had just arrived at his house on Monday morning to watch Wesley.
"Mmm, eventful I guess," Blake said.
"How's that?"
"I went shopping with my friends Ronnie so she could buy a dress for her date, as you know already. Well, the guy she was with seemed to be a little crazy and I had to go help her."
Caiden's face turned hard like he was angry. "What do you mean you had to go help her?"
She was confused by his reaction, but she answered anyway. "She called me and said the guy wouldn't stop touching her and told her she was going back to his house with him. So I told her to lock herself in the bathroom and then I went to pick her up to make sure he didn't try anything."
"You went to pick her up? Blake, I know you're a smart girl, but that's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard," he said. His tone was angry and disappointed.
"What do you mean?" She asked. "I wasn't going to leave her there."
"You could've been hurt. Who knows what the guy was thinking."
"Caiden, she could've been hurt. I had to help her."
"You could've called the police to help her, Blake. Or you could've called me and I would've taken care of it. You shouldn't put yourself in dangerous situations."
"Are you being serious right now?" She asked, growing angry. "She was scared and so was I, and I did what I thought was the best thing to do at the time."
"I am serious, Blake. I'm not fucking kidding when I tell you you could've gotten hurt. The guy was a complete stranger, and from what you tell me, your friend doesn't deserve your help or kindness anyway."
"I wasn't going to let her be raped!" She exclaimed.
"You said you told her to lock herself in the bathroom. She would've been fine until the police got there. Or like I said, you could've called me."
"It was eight o'clock at night, Caiden and you have a child. I wasn't going to call you! I did what I thought was the best thing for me to do."
"I don't care if it's three in the fucking morning, Blake. Don't put yourself in a situation where you could be hurt!"
"Why do you think I would get hurt? Because I'm a girl and I'm weak?"
"No! You could get hurt because you don't know what a guy like that is thinking. What if he'd done the same thing to you as he did to your friend! Would you have been able to stop a grown man from doing anything he wanted to you!"
Blake paused for a second, thinking back to Gulliver. He wasn't muscular like Caiden was, but the chances of her being able to fight him off were slim to none. She didn't answer.
"Exactly. Which is why you should've called me."
Blake crossed her arms and didn't respond. She helped her friend get out of a bad situation and that was all that mattered.
Caiden approached her and gripped her chin between his fingers. "I think you helping her was very noble and I admire your dedication to your friends, but you need to think more before putting yourself into a situation like that." His voice was calmer as he spoke to her, not as angry as it was a few seconds before.
Blake nodded but didn't say anything else; she was still upset. "I'm not apologizing for what I said, because I'm not sorry, but I do hope you and Wesley have a good day," he said. He bent his head to kiss the corner of Blake's mouth.
