Blake drove the whole way home with a smile on her face. She was very excited about the next day, mainly because she got to see Caiden again. She had to stop thinking that way though. For all she knew, he most likely had a girlfriend.
She couldn't stop thinking that way though, and her mind kept drawing up images of them together in her head. When she got back to her house, she pulled into the driveway and turned the car off before grabbing the groceries and heading inside.
"Mom, guess what!" She called out when she walked into the house.
"What?" Her mom answered a few moments later.
"I got a job. I start tomorrow," Blake said, a wide smile in her face.
Her mother didn't seem phased. "Did you get my pills?" Diane had called Blake right before she left the grocery store and asked her to run to the pharmacy to get her antidepressants.
Blake's face fell. She hoped her mother would've been more enthusiastic. "Yeah," Blake said and dropped the pharmacy bag on the table before walking into the kitchen to put the groceries away.
Diane didn't even give Blake a thank you, something Blake was used to. Her mother hadn't said the phrases I'm sorry, thank you, I love you, how are you, etc, in five years. It sucked, a lot, but there was nothing Blake could do about it.
She thought about keeping the extra fifty dollars she didn't spend at the store as a way to get back at her mother for never being grateful, but she couldn't do it. She would spend the rest of her life in guilt, so she dropped the cash in her mother's purse.
The next morning, her alarm went off at four am. She rubbed her eyes tiredly, stretched, then pulled herself out of bed. She walked to the bathroom and did her morning routine. Then she went to her closet and pulled out a t-shirt and a pair of jean shorts. Then she applied a layer of mascara to her eyelashes and fixed her hair to make it less erratic.
She walked downstairs and slipped her tennis shoes on. Then she grabbed her keys and ventured out to her car. She plugged Caiden's address into her GPS on her phone and let the automated voice lead the way.
She arrived at Caiden's house half an hour later. His driveway was long, so long that she wasn't even sure she had the right address. After she finally reached the end of his driveway, she recognized his truck from the day before and knew she was at the right spot.
It was still a little dark, so she couldn't see that well, but she could tell his house was an older farmhouse. It was beautiful though and she loved everything about it, especially the large wraparound front porch.
He was completely alone out there. She passed a driveway about five minutes earlier, but after that, it was just woods and open fields.
He could kill me out here and no one would ever find me.
She shook her head, exiling those thoughts. That was foolish to think. She hoped he wasn't a serial killer obviously, but she highly doubted he was one.
Blake was about fifteen minutes early when she arrived. She wasn't sure if she should go inside yet, but she saw a few lights on in the house, so she knew he was up.
She felt nervous as she exited her car and walked up the stairs to the porch. Not because she thought he was a serial killer, but because she was worried she would screw up. She wanted to make a good first impression and she didn't want to do anything to mar his perception of her.
Before she could even knock on the front door, the door handle turned and Caiden's handsome face appeared. "I saw you walking up the stairs," he said. "I'm glad you found me easily." He pulled the door open for her to walk through.
