"Are you alright? We responded to a house call saying you'd been taken by Dustin Johnson."

Blake nodded her head, gripping Caiden's hand tightly in hers. He was her support-human. "Yes. But I managed to escape. Did you arrest him?"

The cop shook his head, a frustrated expression written across his face. "No. By the time we arrived, he was gone. We have people searching the woods and the roads for him. We will find him, Blake, don't worry."

She nodded her head but felt uneasy. Dustin was dangerous and seemingly deranged. She hoped he was caught and put behind bars soon.

"Would you be okay with telling me everything that happened tonight? Starting with when you first saw him today."

"Yeah, um, I was at my mother's house for dinner. It was around 8 o'clock and we were just cleaning up when we heard a knock at the door. It was Dustin. He held a gun up to my mother, but I talked him into pointing it at me and not her. I didn't want her getting hurt if something were to happen." Blake paused and looked at Caiden who nodded his head, telling her to keep going. He was her strength at that moment; she was very overwhelmed by the whole situation.

She finished telling the cop everything that happened, including that she smashed him in the head with a gun and then ran away. He wrote everything down on a notepad.

"Would you like to press charges against Dustin Johnson?"

"Yes," Blake answered with a nod.

He nodded his head and put his notepad away. "I will head over to your mother's house to get a statement from her."

"Okay. Do you want to follow us?" Blake asked

"Yeah that would be great," the cop said. "We will still have people out looking for Dustin. He won't get too far."

Caiden drove back to Diane's house and the cop followed behind them.

"Blake!" Diane exclaimed when she walked through the door. Her mother was holding Wesley but laid him down on the couch when she saw Blake. She jumped up and ran to her daughter, wrapping her up in a hug.

"I was so worried." Blake felt her shoulders start to shake and she knew her mother was crying.

"I know, but I'm fine. Don't worry. He didn't do anything to me."

Diane held Blake in a hug for a few minutes before pulling away so the police officer could get her statement.

"Did you drop Wesley off here?" Blake asked Caiden while holding Wesley on her lap. She spoke quietly so she didn't disrupt her mom and the officer.

"Yeah. I stopped here to drop him off and made sure your mom was okay."

She smiled at him and patted his chest. "Thanks for that. And thanks for coming to get me."

"I would do anything for you." He kissed her knuckles.

"Would you mind if we bring my mom to our house tonight and until they find Dustin?"

Caiden shook his head. "I was going to mention that to you when the police officer left. She can stay with us as long as she wants. I don't want her here by herself with him still out."

"I love you, Caiden."

"I love you too, sweetheart. You know I'll do anything for you, right? Including killing him?" The coldness in his voice sent shivers up her spine.

"Yes, I know." She nodded.

"I'll always protect you."

"I know."
