"Happy birthday!" Blake said as she slid the box across the table. It was Caiden's 28th birthday and they were out celebrating.
"Thanks, darlin." Caiden grabbed the box and unwrapped the paper. He opened the box up and pulled the hat out. Smiling, he pulled the hat out of the box and examined it.
"Do you like it?" She asked. She hoped it was the right color.
"I love it," he replied. He put the hat on his head for a few seconds to make sure it fit properly, before taking it off because they were in a restaurant. They were at Elli's Big Bites Cafe, the restaurant that was still pretty new to town. Diane had taken her there for the first time a few months ago and she made it a goal to take Caiden there.
"Does it fit right?"
"It fits perfectly. Thank you, sweetheart." He leaned over the table and kissed her lips.
"Alright Wesley, hand daddy your gift." Wesley reached out and dropped the brown paper bag on the table. Caiden opened the bag up and pulled the belt buckle out.
"You picked out a good one, Wesley," he said as he stared at the designs. "I love it."
He wrapped the buckle back into the bag and set the bag and box at the empty spot beside him. "Thank you, Blake."
"You're welcome. I'm sorry it's not much," she said. She wasn't sure what else to buy him. He's the type of person that will buy what he wants when he wants it.
"Don't say that. I loved everything. As long as I have you and Wesley, that's all that matters to me."
Shortly after, the waitress brought them their food and they dug in. "This place is good isn't it?"
"Yeah. This is the best Reuben I've ever had."
"My mom brought me here a few months ago to try it out."
"We will have to come back," he said, shoving a forkful of coleslaw into his mouth.
When they were getting ready to pay the bill and leave, Wesley started to get fussy. "I'll be right back. I'm gonna take him to the bathroom," Caiden said. He dropped his wallet on the table. "Use my debit card to pay." Before she could put up a fight about him not paying for his own birthday meal, he walked toward the bathroom.
Ignoring his wallet, she pulled out her own card and walked up to the front counter to pay. When she was about to walk away, she noticed the head chef, who was also the owner, walking back toward the kitchen. She didn't see a leg of a chair sticking out though, and she tripped over it.
"Oh my gosh, are you okay?" Blake asked as she came to her side. She bent down and helped the woman stand up.
"Oh, I'm okay. Just a klutz," she answered. "Thanks for helping me," she said, offering Blake a smile.
"Are you sure you're okay? That looked a little painful."
"Yeah, I'm okay. I trip over things constantly, I'm used to it now."
They both looked up when someone walked in through the front door. It was a man she had seen in the cafe before. He was dressed in jeans, a white t-shirt, and a black leather jacket. She was pretty sure he was the owner's husband.
