Declining and Accepting

"What do you mean... cleaning your name?"

I didn't show much confusions because of the situation. I am a lawyer and I should hear the issue first before I make my action.

He exhaled a big amount of breath before he decided to look straight to my eyes and uttered the most expected reason.

"One of the stakeholders was spitting lies that I am a corrupt leader. Where in fact, they've been receiving proper benefits from the company. The issue is all over the internet now," he explained. He scoffed as if he isn't pleased to what he was telling me.

Sobrang expected na talaga ang sinabi niya. This issue has been very rampant to any business tycoons at marami-rami na rin akong na handle na ganito.

"Is this stakeholder a man or a woman?" Tanong ko.

"Man. An old man," he chuckled.

Oh boy, may panahon ka pa para tumawa?

"The moment he confronted you of this issue, are there any witnesses?" I asked taking notes mentally.

He sighed and then he cleared his throat before readying himself to talk. "Yes. There are many. That was during the conference meeting."

My brows furrowed and my forehead creased at his statement. That could be oral defamation. But, I won't conclude of something yet. I want to gather more information.

"Do you have any evidences? I mean, we are talking about him accusing you of something and you are innocent until proven guilty," I paused and looked closely to him. "Ano ba ang gusto mong gawin? File a case against his accusations?" I asked and he nodded attentively.

"So... are you telling me that we are going to clean your name in return to tainting someone else's name? Turning the tables?"

"Do you somehow had any grudges towards this man? Or may hindi ba kayo pagkakaunawaan? Maybe the reason why he is into bringing you down..." sunod-sunod kong tanong.

"Actually, he was forcing me since last year to marry his daughter, Krystel. Which I declined," he shrugged after telling me that.

"And, these recent months, was he still forcing you?"

"Yes." He answered shortly.

Both ways, could be.

"Okay. But let's just focus now about his accusations towards you. Make sure his accusations are indeed wrong, because if it is right, I am not going to think twice on digging your grave instead of him," I threatened him which isn't most likely the acts of a lawyer should be.

Hindi ko alam pero wala ako sa wisyo ngayon. Gusto ko pa matulog. O dala na ito sa iritasyon ko sa kaniya kanina.

"I'll make sure that his accusations towards me will remain an accusations because it will never be a fact for me to be a corrupt leader, Attorney." He uttered firmly.

I dismissed the talk after his few words and he handed me his calling card if ever I want to call him about the case. Actually the case is bearable and easy to handle. Pero naiintindihan ko kung para sa mga businessman napakabigat no'n. In the business world, there are people that are indeed true to their occupations while others are only trying to hit the top as if they could rule the world if they did that.

Might be informal but I texted him for an update regarding the CCTV footage inside the conference room and make sure he would hand it out to me. Find at least two or even one trustworthy witness during the meeting to spit facts. Mr. Venenoso already filed a case against the man who accused him. Leo T. Velez, that's the name. And Krystel Velez, his daughter. I told Mr. Venenoso to file a case for false accusations on defaming character by both libel and slander because the accusations was said in speech and written publicly. Nalaman din ng computer specialist ko na galing mismo ang mga post sa address ng IT personnel ni Leo.
