Comfort
The dinner went well at sa mga oras na kumakain kami puno iyon ng kasiyahan. Lerv is there being the always funny friend and Zen the most responsive of all his jokes. Ang saya lang ng gabi namin.
"By the way Kuya, take care of Ate here if nasa Academy na ako. Ate would be so alone at home during that time especially Mom, Kuya and Ate Zia aren't home. I would love it if you will visit Ate Leigh at home from time to time," sabi ni Zen sa gitna ng aming usapan.
Lervint looked at me again with eyes so worried. Totoo naman kasi. Mag-isa na lang ako sa bahay sa panahon na 'yan. I saw Lerv smiled sweetly to Zen.
"Oo naman, Leigh will be under my custody," he informed Zen. My brow raised automatically.
"Ama ba kita?" I interfered.
Tumawa siya at si Zen dahil sa sinabi ko. Custody, huh? Inner me is already laughing so hard at that.
"Anyway, you can count on me about that, Zen. Kailan ba alis mo?" Tanong ni Lerv.
"This weekend." Zen replied.
Huminga ako nang malalim. How can I forget? This week nga pala alis ni Zen. She already spend almost two months here in Cebu being so studious as she usually does in preparation sa pagpasok niya sa Military Academy. I don't doubt her capability even just for a bit pero hindi pa rin maalis sa akin na mabahala.
She's our youngest. The most loved Montreal and Cimafranca. She's the youngest among all relatives. She's as precious as gems. Well taken care of.
I know she will not let us and herself down. She may be as feminine as I am, pero alam ko na kaya niya gawin kung anong kaya ng ibang lalaki sa loob ng paaralan na 'yon. She's not Zen for nothing.
"Someone looks worried..." Dinig kong sabi ni Lerv.
Inirapan ko siya at tiningnan si Zen.
"Who wouldn't?" I asked and then I shrugged.
Pagkatapos naming kumain agad kaming hinatid ni Lerv pauwi sa bahay. Pagdating namin, naunang pumasok si Zen sa loob ng bahay at naiwan kami sa labas ni Lerv.
He looked at me intently.
"Wait for me here tomorrow. I'll pick you up, okay?" Bilin niya sa akin. Agad naman akong tumango.
"Alright. I think I should go, para na rin makapagpahinga ka ng maaga," sabi niya sabay halik sa aking noo. I smiled at that.
The genuine feeling I can't seem to remove in my system. Iyon 'yong kasiyahan na dulot ni Lervint sa akin. Maybe because we're too close? We're used na ganito kami sa isa't-isa.
"Drive safe, Lerv." Huling sinabi ko bago siya pumasok sa kotse niya at nagmaneho paalis.
He pushed the horn of his car three times and even made the signal light blinked, three times too. What's the matter? Kalokohan nito talaga. I scoffed and even shooked my head in disbelief.
Tumalikod nalang ako at inisip na pumasok na sa loob. Only to find Zen staring and standing in front of our front door. Umiiling-iling pa siya habang tumitingin sa akin.
"Hmm, unbelievable," usal niya habang patuloy pa ring umiiling.
"What are you talking about?" Tanong ko sa kaniya habang nakataas ang aking kaliwang kilay.
Hindi niya ako sinagot at mas pinili niyang talikuran ako at pumasok.
"Zen! Nag eavesdrop ka ba? Don't you know it's bad?!" Lakad-takbo kong tanong sa kaniya kasi ang bilis niya maglakad papasok ng bahay!
