Chapter 11: Upcoming tournament

During the weekend, you had updated Aya, Naomi and Maya about everything. They kept coming up with question and in the end, you answered all of them. You told them about the first little incident in the kitchen with Oikawa and Semi. You also told them that Semi turned out to be Oikawa's second cousin, but you didn't tell them about their kind of 'tragic' past. That wasn't up to you.

"I think Semi likes you", Aya had said. Maya agreed with her, but Naomi wasn't quite sure.
"Semi isn't the type of person to get mad over something like that", she had said while thinking back about the kiss you and Oikawa shared.

"But why else would he react like that?", Maya had wondered.

Your friends and sister kept coming up with more questions like those and you told the three of them that wasn't the case. Semi did not like you. He just has a deeply held grudge against the brown haired setter.

"Semi and Oikawa just don't like each other", you had told them. "Since the tournament is coming up, I think they're just trying to mess with each other to catch the other one off guard".

"Hmm... that makes sense actually. I knew that Semi didn't like Oikawa. The only reason we were at that party was because of Iwaizumi. He is the only sane person in that goddamn team", Aya had growled.

To finish your explanation of what happened on Friday, you told the three about your bus ride home. You told them that Semi dropped you off and went home right after you arrived at your house.

"That's nice of him", Maya had said. "When those two will meet again at the tournament, I'm sure there is going to be a lot of tension between them and the teams".

And now, Monday had arrived again. You and Maya were following math at the moment.
Naomi had texted you and asked you to join her at practice after school. Today, you had to decide if you were going to become a manager or not. After the things that had happened, you now were 100% sure you were going to become a manager. You wanted Semi to beat Oikawa at the tournament. You wanted the team to win.

The day seemed to pass very quickly. Before you knew it, the school bell rang. Naomi waited for you to pack your stuff and the two of you headed to the gym together.

"I think you know why I asked you to join me, right?", she asked you.
"Yeah, I do. And I also know what I want now", you said with confidence.

A big smile appeared on you friends face, knowing what your answer was gonna be.

When the two of you arrived at the gym, you could hear the squeaking sounds of the players' shoes. As you entered the gym, Naomi clapped her hands to get the teams attention.

"Guys, listen up! I brought (y/n) with me today because she's here to tell you something", she says with a smirk as she gives you a teasing glare.

You mumble a 'fuck you' without making a sound, giving her a stern glare back.

"Well, Naomi asked me the become a second manager and I decided to agree with that. Of course, only if you guys are okay with it", you tell the team.

"We already agreed", Tendou smiles at you. "We were just waiting for you to accept the offer".

That made you blush a little bit. Not the fact that Tendou said that, but the feeling that they wanted you to become a part of the 'team'.

"Alright then, that's settled!", Naomi yells. "(Y/n) is now part of the Shiratorizawa volleyball team and you assholes better be nice to her and treat her like a human being, understood?"

They all nod while letting out a few giggles here and there. You noticed Semi giving you a thumbs up and as a response, you gave him a little wink back. After you did that, you saw his cheeks getting a little bit pink, a slight blush appearing on his face.

This was going to be nice. You now had something to keep you busy after school. Something that you liked, in contrast to America.

"Okay team, let's call it a day!", the coach yells. "Please gather around before you leave, I wanna say something about the upcoming tournament".

You, Naomi and the team do as the coach says and gather around him.

"As you guys may have noticed, the Miyagi Prefecture Spring Interhigh Qualifiers are almost starting! I want you guys to know that you have only three weeks left until the first match and that's why we're also going to have practice on Saturday's!", the coach says.

"Nooo... not on Saturday's! That's weekend coach", Tendou whines, causing Ushijima to give him a slap on his back. "Shut up or the bench is going to become your best friend here instead of me", he growls at the red-haired boy.

"Also, there's going to be a team which we never played against before. Karasuno, or as most people call them 'the fallen powerhouse'. Rumours are saying that they have an amazing bunch of firsts years", the coach adds with a slight concerned look on his face.

Karasuno huh?

"Oh, I've heard about them! Iwaizumi told me that they have this crazy ass first-year duo! Apparently, their quick attack is insane", Naomi says.

"Why were you talking to Iwaizumi?", one of the team members asks. He clearly wasn't at the party..., you thought.

"Oh, you didn't know? Naomi and Iwai- HEY!", you shout at your friend who just had kicked your popliteal, almost causing you to fall on your back.

"I bumped into him last weekend", Naomi quickly says as she slaps her hand over your mouth to prevent you from spilling more things.

You could see the team members who were at the party laughing. To your surprise, nobody got mad at Naomi for messing around with Iwaizumi. They weren't in a relationship or anything, but they clearly had feelings for one another.

"Well, I don't want to know what you guys do at parties to be honest, but please keep in mind that it's almost time to get really serious. We already went to nationals once and I'm sure we can do it again", the coach says with a smile.

"I'll keep an eye on them coach, don't worry", Ushijima assures him.

"I know you will."

"Okay team, let's go home", Ushijima demands his team.

"Yes sir!"

"Don't call me sir you idiots", he growls as he rolls his eyes and walks towards the changing room.

You laugh at the bickering while you notice Naomi smiling at you. You turn your head around to face her, raising one of your eyebrows.

"What? Is there something on my face?", you ask her.

"No silly. I just love it to see you smile like that. It reminds me of myself when I first met the boys. They were always messing around and they have such a good bond, it made me smile like that too. It means that you're starting to get attached", she says.

Naomi was right. Seeing them acting like that makes you feel happy. You were getting really excited to see the boys play in a real match. You also hoped they would play against Aoba Johsai, so Semi could destroy that son of a bitch Oikawa. And Karasuno... you were getting really curious about that team too. The coach called them a 'fallen powerhouse'. You sighed and decided to do some research when you got home. That's what managers do right?

Before you could walk out of the gym, a certain grey-haired setter grabbed your wrist.

"You going home? Mind to take the bus together?", he asks you.

You give him a wide smile as you nod as a response. And so, the two of you walked home.
