Chapter 14: Shiratorizawa vs Seijoh

You were nervously moving your leg up and down as you held your head in your hands while sitting on the bench. You felt Naomi placing her hand on your leg to calm you down.

"Girl, I don't want to know how nervous you will be when the actual tournament will start", she whispers as she let's out a soft giggle.

"God, I'm really, really nervous and it's just a practice match... I'm not even on the fucking court!", you whisper-yell to Naomi.

Then, the whistle sounds which startled you a little.

You saw Semi taking a deep breath as he tosses the ball up in the air and jumps, so he can smash is down on the other side of the court. Unfortunately, Seijoh's libero easily recieves it.

"Chance ball!", you hear someone screaming from Seijoh's team.

You give Naomi a questioning look, wondering what that meant.
She gives you a soft smile. "Chance ball means that your opponent sent over an easy ball to receive and therefore, a good opportunity for their team to attack", she explains.

"Oh, I see. Forgot to study that one I guess", you say as you awkwardly scratch the back of your neck.

"It's literally basics but I'll forgive you", she says while trying to contain her laughter.

You give her a little punch on the arm before you focus on the match again.

Seijoh wasn't able to score a point with the 'chance ball', so the score was still 0 - 0.

"Iwa-chan!", you hear Oikawa yelling as he tosses the ball in Iwaizumi's direction. In no time, Iwaizumi smashes the ball against your side of the court with an incredible force. You swore you could feel the ground shaking...

"Well, I don't wanna know what he can do with that arm when you guys get together...", you mumble to your friend who's face turns red in an instance.

"What the fuck is wrong with you", she hisses while giving you a glare.

The whistle sounds again and Semi takes another attempt on serving the ball. This time, he serves the ball in a different way. Your eyes follow the ball floating through the air, moving a bit from left to right.

"It's out!", you hear Watari, the libero of Seijoh yell.

But it's not.

Just when everyone thought the ball was going to be out, it fell down, just before the white line at the end of the court. It didn't even look natural. It was almost as if some magnet suddenly pulled the ball down.

You could even hear the coach gasp next to you. He clearly didn't know Semi was able to do that.

"FLOATER SERVE", you hear Tendou yelling as he runs towards the setter and rubs his head with his fist. "When did you learn that SemiSemi? I never saw you doing it during practice!"

"Hmpf, get off me", Semi grumbles as he tries to push his best friend away. "I've got my secrets too okay?" You could now see a slight smile on his face. He was proud at what he did. As he should.

And so, the first set continued. You were overwhelmed by everyone's skills, even by the skills of the Seijoh players. Ushijima's serves were terrifying. He has some really powerful jump serves with an incredible speed. Even Seijoh had trouble with recieving them. Also, Ushijima's spikes are just as terrifying as his serves. He has so much power, it's almost impossible to block his spikes unless you want your hands to break off your wrist...

No matter how much you despise Oikawa at times, there's no denying that he's a very, very skilled player too. During the set, you noticed that the setter often used signals, lettings his teammates know what he was going to do next. Also, his jump-serve is pretty well-known and it shows. You knew he had won the best setter award in his third year at Kitagawa Daiichi and you could see why. You did some research on the brown-haired boy and found out some interesting things. For example, you found out he had been in multiple magazines before and that his favourite food was milkbread. He even has his personal motto, which suited him very well. You also noticed that Iwaizumi is the one who often restrains the setter. During the set, Iwaizumi often scolds Oikawa or gives him a slap on his back, which you found funny.
