A bell chimed as Kyu Ree moved into the pharmacy. She knew, when groups of people stopped and turned towards her, they were gaping at her appearance. Kyu Ree was wearing a red and white striped crop top, which showed almost all of her stomach, and a pair of jeans with large manufactured tears on the thighs. They could have been staring at the fact that her dark brown hair had been ombred with white, or she had a rather shiny belly button ring in.
But she was sure it was due to all the tattoos she had, all curiously done with stars. Trails of stars went up her stomach, sides, arms, her back, and she’d a black star directly under her right eye. However, Kyu Ree was almost positive it was due to the drunken girl stumbling in behind her.
River was wearing a pair of sweatpants and a tank top, with ugg boots, her hair in a very messy ponytail, and sunglasses covering her eyes. She groaned. “Why is this place so far from the apartment?”
“It isn’t,” Kyu Ree stated as they moved towards the pharmacy counter. “You’re just overreacting.” She stopped on the other side of the counter and hit the small tabletop bell. A man appeared, smiling at her. “Hi, I was wondering if you had the Plan B pill in stock?”
He smiled and nodded. “Of course. Faulty encounter last night?” He asked, looking Kyu Ree up and down.
She shook her head. “It isn’t for me.” She turned towards River. “It’s for her.” She took a paper from River’s purse and handed it to the pharmacist. “Here’s the prescription she got for pills a few months ago. Is it still good?”
The man took the paper and nodded. “Yes, I’ll be back in just a moment, if you’ll excuse me,” He said, turning and walking back into the dozens of rows behind him.
Kyu Ree turned to River, who was awkwardly leaning against the side of the counter, staring off into space. “Are you feeling alright?” River shrugged her shoulders. “Do you need anything else, other than the pill?” River shook her head. “No ice cream? You always shoot for ice cream in these situations.”
River sighed. “No, I’ll be alright.”
“Kyu Ree?” A voice asked, and Kyu Ree turned to find Kyung, once again. He was standing with his friend, who he’d introduced to Kyu Ree the night before. Taeil? He was the cute one.”Hey! Funny seeing you again, already.”
She laughed. “Are you following me?”
“Only a little.” Kyung answered, moving towards her. Taeil walked leisurely beside him. “I’m sure you remember my friend Taeil.”
Kyu Ree nodded. “This is my roommate, River.”
Taeil laughed. “So you’re the girl who drunkenly sleeps under tables.”
River gave a weak nod. “That’d be me.”
“River, this is Kyung, a boy I know from New Zealand, and his friend Taeil.” Kyung smiled, Taeil offered a sort of smirk, and River just groaned again. The pharmacist returned, thankful sparing the dirty details, and Kyu Ree turned to him. “Thank you,” She said, handing him River’s debit card, which had been taken away so she couldn’t buy anymore booze. “What are you guys doing here?”
