Kyu Ree stared at Kyung while the three sat at the breakfast table. He hadn't said a word, nor had he ratted Kyu Ree out to Taeil about the pregnancy test. She had a lot of explaining to do. So much so that she was worried. They were never going to forgive her, especially now that she was... was pregnant.
"How is everything?" Taeil asked, taking a bite of his food. Both Kyung and Kyu Ree nodded. "Are you both sure? Because you're being awfully quiet. Is something the matter?" Immediately both shook their heads. "Okay, I'm a little freaked out right now." He said quietly.
Kyu Ree forced a smile. "The food is delicious I just... am not so hungry after throwing up all night. I guess my stomach just wants a rest." She said, looking to Kyung.
He nodded. "I think I'm just unsettled from last night."
Taeil's brow furrowed. "I feel fine. And wouldn't you be hungry after throwing up all night?"
Kyu Ree nodded and took another bite. She knew she was overthinking it, but she felt as though there was a possibility the child was WooHyun. In truth, she had been... intimate with her ex fiance just before she'd run away months before. Sure, it had been long enough now for the stereotypical pregnancy signs to show up, but she remembered a few tales her mother had told her years before. Her mother had no clue she was pregnant with Kyu Hyuk until just two months before his arrival. She never showed physical changes, a baby bump or swelling or anything of the sort. She never had morning sickness, cravings or mood swings. The same happened when she was pregnant with Kyu Ree, though she realized she was pregnant earlier. Kyu Ree's fear was that she would follow in her mother's trend. She was afraid that this whole time, she'd been pregnant. If that was true, she would be five or six months along.
And here she was, sitting with one of her closest friends and the only person she'd ever loved worrying that she was pregnant with the child of a psychopath. "Breakfast was delicious, Oppa." She said, standing and looking down at her barely touched food. "But I should probably get going. I have a few things I need to take care of. If you want to hang around here I'll be back around three, but I figure you have some work stuff to take care of... right?"
Taeil nodded, raising an eyebrow. "Will I see you tonight?" She nodded. "I'll meet you back here? After work?" She nodded again. "Kyu Ree, are you sure you're okay?"
She nodded, moving her plate to the sink. "Yeah, I'm fine thanks for asking I just have to get out of here to get to my uh thing that I have to take care of so I'll see you later on tonight okay?" She rushed, hurrying to the door and sliding her feet into her shoes. She raced out of the apartment, handbag in hand as she she charged to the elevator and escaped the apartment for the second time that afternoon.
She tugged out her phone and dialed the number of one of her old colleagues. Byun Joyce, who refused to tell anyone her real name, owned a small clinic in the countryside. It would take a few hours, but Kyu Ree was going to see her because she knew there were no ties to her family's hospitals there. She knew it was safe.
She knew she could tell her how far along she was.
River sat in one of the booths of Deviant with a glass of scotch sitting in front of her. Why did she always find herself in the presence of alcohol when her boyfriends left her? Sure Akito hadn't left her, but she was almost sure that given time, things would be over between them.
"Anyways," Hee-Bong said, lifting the glass to his lips. "I know you're struggling emotionally right now, but you're doing a lot better around here. You have a few more classes until you're finished with your degree and we can move forward with process of handing over the club to you." He smiled. "I hear from Haneul that you're making far more progress than we had thought. I'm proud of you."
